Using a pen and a piece of paper to create your own management game would be easier and a better use of one's time than having to plow through this crap heap. Although the option to pay transfer fees in instalments helps manage transfer budgets more effectively, stingy chairmen refuse to increase the percentage of transfer revenue despite your club being in a decent financial situation. The Dynamics feature is conceptually good yet the execution is far from satisfactory - new players in a club can suddenly gain immense influence despite having poor leadership qualities or just being plain lazy.

As expected, more of the usual glitches remain present. The most noticeable would be the fact that goalkeepers and full-backs are still OP as hell. A full-back can get 10-15 assists per season while an inside forward or winger usually gets about 5. You can have ultra-attacking tactics or a 442 formation on with a poor defence and still have a clean sheet for multiple games in a row. Furthermore, players' wage demands and clubs' transfer fee requests differ from extremely low to outrageously high - there is no in between.

The visual enhancements, the interface and the new Dynamics feature are welcome and much-needed changes to a dated template. However, action needs to be taken in regards to the aforementioned glitches to make the game more enjoyable to play.

Good place to start, especially if you are new to the series. Existing fans like I, however, could find it comparable to an ex-girlfriend with a visual makeover and the same character traits (sigh).

Instead of spending 35 quid on this sad, buggy excuse for an "update" you might as well download a transfer patch for FM16 and save yourself both the frustration and the cash.

Still, it's pretty addicting nonetheless, ngl

Honestly I am a little on the fence for this one. Some parts of the game, especially those where you are in jail, are quite enjoyable. If you like story - driven games, and mobster movies such as Godfather, Donnie Brasco etc. you might just get a kick out of it. Plus, with its fascinating vehicles and soundtrack the game captures the atmosphere of early 20th century America quite well.

Unfortunately, once you've finished the campaign (which takes about 10 hours at most, I imagine), there is almost no replay value whatsoever. The free-roaming world is nowhere near as expansive as the one in games like GTA, providing little incentive to do side activities, like robbing stores and so on. Why have a free roam world if you can't do anything noteworthy in it? Missions make about 95% of the game. Speaking of the missions, sometimes you have to spend too much time on tedious tasks in certain ones, eg. pressing a button to clean a prison toilet, turning off the lights, and so on. Because of this sometimes it takes a while to get to the action.

Overall, I would say Mafia II is worth a play but won't be bringing you back for seconds, unless you are crazy about these kinds of stories. That's why I'd wait for a sale.

FIFA 98 is more realistic than this load of rubbish
