It's like the original Colonization, only worse in literally every way aside from graphics and *maybe* movement. But building, garrisons, rebel sentiment, king's reinforments, and founding father mechanics are all way worse. Do not buy if you loved the classic.

@cic76 -- I've played in the past, but was told they fixed a lot of the problems, so I decided to pick it up on Steam while it was on sale. Back in the day, I wrote a mod called "CivBalance" (which is no longer compatible, but still available for download). Anyway, I spent an hour going through the data files and the C++ sdk, only to find that your troops still count as Tories, building times are still fucked up, and the King's reinforcements rates are bonkers. To be fair, "The Authentic Colonization (TAC)" mod seems like it'd fix all these problems, but the idea that I need a mod to make the game playable is ridiculous.
