I’ve played most of the zombie games recently available. Contagion is easily my favorite. The only other game that comes close is the Nazi Zombies series.

As an adult gamer, I don’t have much time. I play at least once a week with my friends online. We use a mumble server. Voice chat is absolutely necessary as teamwork is insanely important in this game. You will not be able to run off by yourself and survive. I have a dedicated private server. Which is easy to set up and lets us play without trolls or kids. We prefer the coop “escape” mode.

The best thing about this game is how brutally hard it can be. Head shots are the only practical way to kill zombies. Ammo is so scarce every single shot counts. It is common to be down to your last two or three shots with zombies on your tail. You can run away, but eventually you will have to stand and fight. Finishing a level is very satisfying and a real accomplishment.

The levels are enormous, but well laid out. Some game modes do not have a map, so getting lost is possible. Once you learn them you will not get lost, as most are fairly linear.

The downside is that there are not many maps. The game needs about twice as many maps as it has now. A few people have released maps via the workshop. While most of these are very good, there are not many and few people play them.
