Boring, self-indulged writing and repetitive combat. If you think Kojima is a storytelling genius, you might enjoy this. Otherwise, you'll just want to get it over with, hoping for some kind of payout.

Not worth even my time, even if you payed me.

Foreword: This is a port of a WiiWare game from 2008.

  • Interesting story.
  • Fun puzzle mechanics.
  • Vibrant, detailed environments.

Cons
  • No graphics options.
  • No controller support.
  • Forced Fullscreen.
  • Forced VSync(?) (needs confirm)
  • Simple enemy AI
  • Short game

LostWinds is an interesting title to say the least. It has a fun story that's simple and recognizable, but gets the job done and adds a little extra to make it unique. It's pacing is a little slow at times, but you'll get things moving along more quickly as you learn how to play. The game is really easy for a good while but when the difficulty ramps up, you notice it very quickly. It has decent challenges and can keep you busy for a while.

The style is very Metroidvania-Lite and you'll finish it quickly if you run through it. I completed the story in 2.3 hours but didn't get all the collectibles. As a package deal, you can get both games for $15, so then is this game worth $7.50? Sure, but save it for a flight or a road trip.

I give it 6.5/10.

Straight up hardcore shooting. No clumsy UI, no complicated controls. Bullet hell FPS to the max! If you like shooting challenges, best $5 you'll spend getting it!

Should've been a movie. It's basically on-rails cliche macabre theatre. It's artsy as hell but doesn't have any other redeeming qualities. After the first couple of jumpscares, you've pretty much experienced all there is. The story itself is incredibly shallow and obvious and the gmae spends an inordinate amount of time trying to mess with you psychologically...with nothing.

Boring as hell after the first 15 minutes. It's a glorified puzzle game with lots of cheap, repetitive scares. Don't buy it, watch a Let's Play and be done with it.

This is a remastered version of one of my favorite games and franchises, Darksiders II. The Deathinitive Edition offers an additional difficulty level, improved visuals (especially lighting), and rebalanced loot and enemies.

If you've already played Darksiders II before, it's the same game you know and love but prettier. If you've never played Darksiders II, it's a wild ride and a very challenging experience. The combat is visceral and the controls tight and responsive. There are some minor camera issues but you'll learn to adjust to the controls (gamepad highly recommended).

Players new to the series should start with and beat Darksiders I first, before moving onto this title, to get the full breadth of the detailed and winding story. The Darksiders franchise offers a lot to love, from the art and music direction to the weapon skills and enemies. Darksiders II picks up the torch and never slips up.

This is one game (franchise) I highly recommend. This remaster in particular is 100% faithful to the original and definitely a good bit harder and prettier.

Technical Issues

1. [FIXED] Settings Shadows to max crashes the game upon loading or creating a save.
2. Resetting options to fix CTD clears Nightmare Mode from available New Game difficulties.

I've logged 34 hours into the game as of writing this review.

The game has been nothing short of an exceptional experience. From the very moment you start the game, you get a good sense of what you're getting into. The music sets the tone to this sort of grungy, rockabilly space Western. It's full of character has a good sense of "space". All this despite playing like a sort of "World of Warships meets Elite: Dangerous" hybrid between space exploration and naval combat. I highly recommend buying this game.

Pros:

Full controller support (including optional Playstation layout).
Tight Mouse&Keyboard controls.
Very pretty graphics and effects.
Visible modular ship damage.
Many graphics settings in the launcher.
Superb soundtrack.
Optional custom soundtrack to replace OR supplement the original soundtrack.
Fluid combat mechanics.
More lasers than I sometimes know what to do with.
Unique and lively NPC interactions.
Moderate learning curve.
VERY attentive and responsive developers constantly patching reported issues.

Cons:

Enemy dialogue is sometimes repetitive.
No vertical travel (2D movement only).
Objects (like Cargo) sometimes block docking or other actions.
Slaves (Cargo) have no clear way to be saved other than forfeiting to Militia (-4 rep penalty).
Single-player only (for now).

Styx feels like a hodgepodge of Dishonored, Assassin's Creed, and Splinter Cell except it does all the wrong things. On the surface, the game is gorgeous and the protagonist is a pretty cool and interesting dude. You'll soon discover that things like light-based detection and ragdoll physics just aren't up to snuff with any modern or old stealth game.

The whole thing feels pretty rushed beyond the first couple of missions. Once you've finally unlocked the last set of equipment, don't expect any further interesting interaction than what you can do immediately. Static light sources and some strange, unspoken alliance between guards and monsters are only some of the lazy design choices ahead of you.

I played through the entire game starting on Hard. The tutorial is highly recommended, as there are a number of complicated techniques that are easy to understand but challenging to master. This game feels like it does absolutely everything it needs to and nothing more. It's the Portal of Waifu Hack-n-Slash games and it's very challenging and fun. I bought it on sale for $2.50 but would've gladly payed up to $7.50 for it.

Things to remember:

• Just Guard often.
• Quickly Guard often to string together larger combos.
• Upgrade points can be spent at any time.

1. MASSIVE framerate issues. R9 290x and frames still drop to below 20.
2. Boring and tedious enemy encounters. Blind guy, guy with big axe, guy with sword and shield, headcrab thing...GO!
3. Immutable enemy physics. Is he swinging at you? You'd better not be also swinging unless it's a killing blow! Enemies are wholly unlikely to stagger against even strong attacks, even when they're NOT attacking you!
4. Breakables breakables breakables aka roll over ALL the things. Not a fan of this at all. You'll spend minutes at a time just rolling around the room trying to break every object possible because it MIGHT have an item. Stop it, this is not fun. Even Zelda narrowed their list of rewarding breakables.
5. Incoherent enemy physics. Back to this again. This is EXTREMELY apparent with the First Warden (5 minutes in), enemies often exhibit motion that belies their skeletal structure. Try rolling behind an axe guy as he swings at you. Watch as he spins around on a dime mid-step and mid-swing to stay on target. The player cannot benefit from this level of precision homing.
6. Forgettable story and characters. Right from the start, I can't seem to care about even the hero, let alone the people he encounters. Maybe part of that is the terribly awful dialogue animations. Maybe they're just poorly written. Maybe both.

This game tries very hard to be Dark Souls with a Darksiders feel. It fails at both of these things significantly. I wouldn't recommend paying more than $15 for this game, if you're into that sort of thing.

What starts as a fun little game becomes increasingly aggravating, just you dying a whole bunch because you don't know the stage yet, only to be reset back to start. As the levels get longer, it gets worse and worse. Cool concept, poor execution, watch a Let's Play and be done with it.
