Most people who talk about Eversion primarily make note of the Lovecraftian horror influence on it, as if indicating that you should play it for that reason.
Don't.
Play it because it's a high-quality platformer (despite its simple graphics) with a very cool game mechanic. The game, sadly, can't measure up to the classics of the platformer genre, like Earthworm Jim or Super Mario Bros. 3, probably because it often tries too hard to be scary and ignores good level design. To be fair, levels in some of the aforementioned games also occasionally tried too hard (Remember Earthworm Jim's "Intestinal Distress!" level? Oops, sorry, I forgot you were trying not to.), but this one pushes that to its limit.
I think this game was made for a competition which also produced the game "the white chamber" and other games dealing with Lovecraftian horror, so maybe that has some basis on it.
Regardless: Even if I am kind of sarcastic about Eversion, it's a genuinely good game.
