A very "simple" game in concept, but the great flight model will keep you on your toes for hours. The learning curve is pretty steep but there's a great sense of accomplishment once you manage to finish your first few missions. Highly recommended for any space flight fans.

Not for the feint of heart, but if you're willing to spend a couple hours to get into the game, it's probably the best space sandbox experience out there. Build yourself an empire, an armada of warships and do whatever the hell you want to do.

It's got the same issues as practically every other X-game before, though: cumbersome and unintuitive user interface, poorly presented story and unimaginative mission design as well as myriads of bugs and glitches in the release version. Most of all, the game simply lacks polish and feels clunky. If you can look beyond that it's one hell of a sandbox, however.

If you're looking for an open-world romp like RF:Guerilla, this is not it. If you're looking for a very fun sci-fi action game with lots of big explosions, creative and powerful weapons, great moody graphics and awesome destruction capabilities, then Red Faction Armageddon is definitely worth a look. Even the story holds up surprisingly well with neat cutscenes and good voice acting, although the overall plot is nothing out of the ordinary.

If you enjoyed something like the Gears of War singleplayer, then you should consider getting Armageddon next time it's on sale.
