I'm from the old ages of gaming. Started playing the Nintendo when I was three. Zelda Classic for the WIN! I started playing Half-life shortly after it was released. I am also from the .3 beta of Counterstrike (ahhh, the last half of beta was truely the best of times. 1.0+ pales in comparison!).
I've not seen a game of this magnitude in years. Most of the creativity of gaming comes back strong, with a healthy mix of art, story, soundtrack, and a classic feel.
The game starts out in a very typical fasion, giving you a simple goal and everything being clear. Then, about a third through, you have a typical plot twist. It seems like another generic game, but the similarities end there. I can't help but to feel like this is to STRONGLY contrast the rest of the game, because not soon after, the plot twists AGAIN! I did NOT see that coming. Then it adds ANOTHER kink! All the while the narrator becomes more suspenseful, making you spur onwards to hear the next thing he has to say.
Finally, the ending has a grand kick in the teeth that presents a powerful moral dillema, and having grown attached to the narrator, makes the choices feel like they have a grand impact rather than just a conclusion.
This one is on my list of highest recommended games, flat out.
It's a game that is pretty much it's own genre. Even though it's old, it's still very fun, and no game captures the unique gameplay, even today. Majesty 2 tried to mimic it, but it doesn't have the right feel.
