Botanicula is a cute and (almost darkly) atmospheric point-and-click adventure game about little plant creatures following out a mythic quest. (Each of the cute little fellows has their own abilities to help overcome the challenges they encounter, though unfortunately they don't come into play more than a few times :/ Oh well, having a whole group of critters with you is still fun.)

Botanicula is not your usual point-and-click, where you pixel hunt to progress. Instead you'll be searching around for all the cool little creatures that inhabit the world, simply because you *want* to. Seeing them move around and interact (and all the sounds they make!) is really enjoyable, even more so because of how completely optional it is.

Neither will you have to worry about obtuse item combinations to proceed; quest items usually simply frame areas that you'll be exploring, without actually being difficult to collect. The primary difficulty/annoyance comes in the latter half of the game where there are multiple puzzles available at once and you're not sure in what order to do them. Your map is usually good (stylized line drawings on leaves!), although one area in the latter half of the game (the city) is just too jumbled (it's hard to tell where you've been and what's where).

Overall, Botanicula is a great little game (~4 hours, if you explore like I do) with excellent art design, sound design, music, and atmosphere. The first half of the game is particularly good, because of its focus on the environment (both on the natural home of the critters and what's happening to it...); the latter half sort of breaks down on that with one area too cluttered (and discordant with the prior environments) and another too spread out, both too unfocused.

I certainly enjoyed it, though, and I definitely recommend it (though for me the current $10 tag is a bit much; I got it on a Steam sale a while ago - but if you have money, throw it Amanita for me, ok? :P).

Botanicula's certainly a game focused on aesthetics rather than gameplay, and I do love those.
