2011 was an amazing year for PC games. Sadly, this means a few great titles have been overlooked amidst the flurry of releases. Atom Zombie Smasher is the best of them. Developer Brandon Chung has always been a master of style - even his student game Barista 2 has more spunk than most commercial releases - and in Atom Zombie Smasher that style really meshes with the gameplay. The randomly-selected narrative vignettes are amusing, but this is a game that tells its story almost entirely through its gameplay. This is a real, horrifying zombie apocalypse, viewed with a clinical distance. You will try and save Nuevo Aires. You will lose. And you'll enjoy it all the way.
