The Faces of Evil should be canon to the Zelda story.

Link is given character much more in-depth and detail than in any other Zelda game. He's given dialogue and an extremely complex form. He yearns for adventure, as evidenced by his opening lines, but also displays a great amount of courage by going so far as to question when Ganon will attack again. He is also quite prepared for the incoming danger; he claims that he'll "grab his stuff", though we are never told what that is exactly. Instead, he is told that his "sword is enough". For someone to only need a sword on a quest of such monumental task is beyond awesome; it's true that a hero like Solid Snake went in with little to no items, but by the end of his journey, he acquired many different types of weapons. Link only has one main weapon, being his sword; if he had brought his "stuff" this game would definitely not be as earth-shattering as it was. Another thing to note about Link is that he is confused about his sexuality; he wears lipstick while flirting with Zelda. I bet that after he got turned down by Zelda he was either writing a ballad about her or hitting on the king's messenger. Link constantly seeks out knowledge; he asks the messenger about "those heads". For, how is he to complete his quest if he doesn't know what they are? To further support my claim of his devotion to his quest, Link at one point says "I guess I better get going." He is amazing at dealing with the current situation, mentally speaking. He's just been told to go on a quest to defeat evil; there is always a chance for death, and yet he simply decides to get it over with, as if he knows he will succeed. He is either very courageous or very robotic, to not question the king's orders or the messenger.

The king is also a very confusing character. He says that peace is what all true warriors strive for, but at the first sign of another nation in danger (Korodei) he immediately asks how their country can help. He contradicts himself; what kind of king wishes for peace but then goes on a quest of espoinage, possibly resulting in war between the two sides, at the first drop of a pin? What's more is that the messenger says that only Link can defeat Ganon; what about Ganon's other "minions" as they are so called? Couldn't the king use his army to defeat them and leave only Ganon to Link? No. Instead he leaves all of the work to Link while he is back in the castle with Zelda. If Link were to die on his quest, he could simply claim that he had no knowledge of what was happening. In short, the king is a manipulative bastard that loves violence and probably ascended to the throne after backstabbing those who were in his way.

In short, The Faces of Evil is a very complex game with deep characters. The lines of "good" and "evil" are blurred. This has turned off many Zelda fans; however, this game should be remade for the Wii and given the fanfare it deserves.

He gazed up at the enormous freezecam. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark gasmask. O cruel, needless axtinguisher! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving medigun! Two Bonk! Atomic Punch-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the round was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Fecking Critical Sandvicher.
