Early Access Review
9/04/2018:
I’ve recently been playing Space Engineers, and there is a considerable amount of performance issues with the game. I was once able to utilize about 2 gigabytes worth of mods, spawn in planets, higher graphics settings, airtightness, drones, wolves, etc. but with recent updates to the game, it appears that the game is being downgraded since it’s release… I would like to know why…

Right now, I can barely run the game with just 12 mods (Less than about 5 megabytes), the LOWEST graphics settings, and a single small planet. Even without a planet, it still lags. With the recent updates, it seems that everyone is being forced to play the game in vanilla (With hopes of it being fun and functional) and ditch the mods people enjoy using. I don’t think that playing the game in vanilla would do anything to improve the game’s performance since as I’ve stated before, I was once able to run the game with several planets, about 2 gigabytes worth of mods, high graphical settings, etc. before these updates. Including the performance impact with just 12 mods weighing less than about 5 megabytes and the lowest quality graphical settings. What happened to this game. It’s been getting worse and worse performance wise, increasing the demand of computer specs.

Every time I check the console/performance log, it always shows me something different that’s causing issues with the game. One saying to lower graphics settings, another saying to switch from experimental to vanilla, another saying that there are too many entities in the world (Speaking of which, I am UNABLE to remove entities such as wolves from the game using the admin panel/entity list. It always displays a message stating that I am unable to remove “them” because they are other players. THERE AREN’T ANY OTHER PLAYERS IN THE GAME!), another saying a mod is causing issues... but the ONE thing that is the same throughout all of the games is the performance. It always lags in both graphics and CPU performance. As if there are billions of processes being conducted ALL at once in a world just being occupied by a single player and nothing else!

PLEASE FIX!!!!!!!!!

(I'll still give a positive rating, but I would really like to see this game fixed and go back to how it was around the year 2012.)

12/28/2017:
Here is an updated review for this game (I had to delete my previous/old reviews to add this one on...):
I'll first start off with the cons/not so very positive things with my suggestion(s) to the developers and then list the positives...

NEGATIVES:

1.) The simulation speed has been decreased for some reason:
- Now I don't know much about the engine used for this game, I can't know exactly how to help for this situation, but I can say that this can be improved by making the ship(s) and/or stations a single model (In other words, without processing each block attatched to it and what might happen if that block collides with an object at a given speed, just make the models in a way where they function like how other space games are....)

2.) Multiplayer is terrible...:
- Before anyone gets on my case, here is a disclaimer: I have only played multiplayer with mods... Now with that said, I used to be able to play multiplayer games with no issues when I first got this game around the year 2012 (Around, I can't remember when exactly and I am too lazzy to check), but now it is worse than it was before. I'm not sure what was changed from before and after the Planet Update, but I do know that a lot of the lag during the multiplayer sessions can be revamped by reducing the amount of data being transffered from two or more computers. (If the following is already being used, then I don't know how to help with that in my current perspective.) By reducing the data being transffered, have both computers act like a host, (But in reality, there is only one person hosting the world/universe.) and by only sending numbers from the following variables: X coordinates, Y coordinates, Z coordinates, block(s)/ship placement/location, block locations on the ship(s), block damage, block type, block style, block powered/active (based/depending on the block, using a single variable to determine the current action/state of a block can help if not already implamented.), and values stored within each block... And if that does not work, then probably convert all values from all variables into numerical values. And another thing, for oxygen, it almost seems as if "oxygen" is an actual object (like the blocks) in the game. In the un-likely possibility that happens to be ture, please replace oxygen blocks with nothing but conditional statements indicating weather there is an opening/hull breach in the ship/station or not. In addition, creating special effects when a hangar door opens appears to create multiple FX's. Compressing the multiple FX's created into a single visual effect should greatly improve performance. Pretty much to conclude this con list, just use mathematics and detect objects and compress those seperated objects to form a single object.

3.) The airlock doors of DEATH:
- Yesterday, I died from an airlock door (vanilla door). How? you might ask. Well, like normal people would, they would open the door while standing on a proper floor. For myself, I made an airlock vertical on a ship. So, when I just stand on the doors, they launch me in the opposite direction of the doors until I collide with another object and die from a high speed. (I stood on the doors vertically on the inside of it, if that makes any sense at all).

POSITIVES:

1.) Very good physics game.
2.) Better than Minecraft and their higher price for less features.
3.) Unlimited possibilities.
4.) Create virtually anything with little to no limitations other than your will, imagination, and computer specs.
5.) Best way to get marketable items in comparison to other games I've played.
6.) Always being improved and more new features and content being added.
7.) And more (I am running out of space to write, I had just deleted all other review below to write this one to completion.)

What GPU are you using? How old is it? Can it run DX11? I am having no problems on Intel Integrated graphics.
