A real sleeper hit. Channeling classic shooters like Robotron 2084, Pineapple Smash Crew uses a classic motif that just works; the combination of excellent chiptunes, 16-bit graphics, and awesome arcade gameplay makes this one a damn fun choice.
Though it's a bit pricey for what it is, it's refreshing to see a game that uses the retro graphics style choice well, instead of just as a cop-out. I'd love to see some kind of co-op, but it's still pretty damn good for what it is.
Pretty big disappointment. PW is trying to turn the gameplay around, but ground combat is fairly clunky and feels very unsatisfying, and space combat is boring as shit.
A damn shame too; would have been amazing if Cryptic hadn't have just copied Champions Online (though I guess that's more Atari's fault than anything).
Bastion is proof that style and substance can co-exist. Classic gameplay blends with amazing art, fantastic music, and a surprisingly great story to make one of the best games of 2011. Bastion is an argument for games as art if I've ever seen one.
Buy this game. You owe it to yourself to play Bastion at least once.
