Progressing early in the game was tied to a random key drop from enemies, which never dropped after an hour (and 29 dead enemies) of fighting and exploring. Baffling design choice

Fun little game. The gathering, the crafting, the survival mechanics are all what you would expect of a game with them. Rafting downriver feels like an arcade action experience, and the sections on foot will keep you on your toes. The music is also compliments the setting well. My only complaint is that the cold mechanic gets pretty harsh and requires a certain upgrade to your raft to be managable, which would seriously hamper a player who cannot or does not get the upgrade in time. While not huge on content compared to other survival games, this can be a nice short playthrough with an end goal if that's what you're looking for.

As a fan of Road Rash on the Sega Genesis, this was pretty much the spiritual sequel I always dreamed of. The only issues that I have are: 1 The low number of racing tracks. Some are just copies of each other, while others are mirrored versions (although the latter isn't that bad, more racing games should have that). 2: The game is ridiculously hard. The perk upgrade system helps you through the campaign, but that can't save you with some characters. This roadblocked me on unlocking all the tracks to play as well as many characters, but after finally beating the campaign, I had enough content unlocked that I could play the game any day and not be bored.

I also played local multiplayer with friends, and it's a blast to play either campaign in co-op or the quick races competitively. I never tried the online though

Great game, but don't expect mercy from it.

Early Access Review
Large amount of content that only gets bigger. Lots of spell effects, unique enemies, and game-changing perks, so most runs aren't alike. The fundamentals are easy enough to pick up, but only paying attention and experimenting will let you become a filthy-rich death-god. Or you can die hilariously because of an oversight or bad coincidence. It's still in early access as of this writing, so they might ruin it yet, but the groundwork is absolutely solid.

Bad controls, unintuitive menus, inability to change the resolution of windowed mode, strange issues with weapon and troop delivery, and agonizingly slow pace adds up to a frustrating experience that ruins what could have been a fun game.

Before I get into the game's problems, I would like to say what's good about it. Shooting games where you fight giant insects is a rarity, so points for a concept that hasn't been explored much. The game aslo has a grand sense of scale, with huge buildings getting destroyed as collateral in the fights and huge boss-type foes that are taller than lots of the buildings themselves. It also usually introduces a new enemy or a new vehicle every mission (at least for a while). Although far from a perfectly implemented, the game also gives the player several classes with their own abilities, and the ability to change your gun loadout between missions.

However, this game has a number of problems. First, it is extremely repetitive. There is very little variance in mission objectives. It's always go here, kill all the constantly spawning enemies, repeat. There's little in terms of varied environments; Where you are on the map has almost no effect on how any given situation is approached. Combat is also repetitive, with waves and waves of the same four enemy types with an occasional bullet sponge boss. Waves of enemies tend to go on for entirely too long, and I found myself wishing for a change of scenery halfway through most of the firefights. As mentioned, most of the bosses are bullet sponges, not particularly difficult to defeat, but it takes a very very long time. Only occasionally are boss battles fun.

The system of armor classes and unlockable weapons is a nice thought, but it is poorly implemented. Weapons can be found on the battlefield, usually after killing some boss monster. However, weapons are also divided into tiers, and even after collected can only be unlocked via leveling up the armor class that uses said weapon. The problem with this is that it can take too long to level up. If you change your armors for the sake of varying the gameplay, level ups are few and far in between, so the weapons you pick up become unused, and the enemies become increasingly durable (the game uses skin swapped versions of some enemies with more health later in the game). Either the game becomes repetitive because it gradually takes more time to kill enemies or it becomes repetitive by sticking to the same class.

Overall, the game has some good ideas, but most are not very well implemented. Some people might find enjoyment from this game, but the giant bug novelty isn't enough to salvage the gameplay

Top down alien shooting game. It's pretty mediocre in pretty much every respect. The guns are nothing special, the aliens are forgetable, the stages feel mostly the same. The game attempts to make a creepy atmosphere via dark lighting and giving you a flashlight that runs down on power, and admittedly it could work very well as a thriller type game in that regard. But the game gives you plenty of ammo to deal with your enemies and rarely can they sneak up to you thanks to them always showing up on your mini radar on screen. Nothing strikes me as particularly bad, but nothing really stands out as particularly good, so skip this one.

It's like I'm really playing Empire: Total War except it's actually good!

Easily the worst Serious Sam, and not a very good game besides. Serious Sam has never been a serious series, but this game tries way way way too hard to be funny. It's not even good humor, it's like having a friend tell you a series of jokes that you already heard before. And they're everywhere. From the "oh so wacky" designs of both npcs and enemies, to the awful attempts at situation comedy both in and out of cutscenes, the game just bludgeons the player over the head with jokes that would be better suited for comedy night at an elementary school.

Unlike other Serious Sam games, this game also frequently interrupts gameplay with cutscenes and story segments. These segments made me feel as though I had been kidnapped and taken away from the only remotely enjoyable part of the game, the gameplay, briefly tortured, released back to what I was doing, only to be kidnapped again a few minutes later.

The gameplay is similar to the other entries in this series, though easier. If you are looking for a fast-paced shooter with lots of guns and a ton of diverse enemies that you blast away with your immense firepower in different types of arenas... well this game does that. But every other game in this series does it too and without the unbearable aspects of this one. Don't touch this one.

The Good: Well done spooky atmosphere, some guns are over the top in terms of effect on enemies, ai is sometimes funny in how dumb it can be at times, lighting effects are nice, the setups for gunfights are varied enough for entertainment. Some moments are actually frightening.

The Bad: Environment art style feels mostly the same through the game, the game follows a predictable pattern of fight, spook, the player, fight, spook the player, and it relies a lot on jump scares

The Ugly: Plot drags on and on. Feels like you accomplish nothing as you go through the acts. In the end not much is resolved.
