The game for me had a fair if not pretty average plot, however the ending is just left me so extremely dissatisfied, it's not even bad, just... very underwhelming so I can't recommend it simply because I don't think it's worth being so disappointed. If you really think it looks interesting and want to play it, the game has been on deep discount before so just wait for a sale when it's under $5

A really fun puzzle platformer that I had a lot of fun with. There are 2 endings, the first is more straightforward, but he later is harder because some of the late puzzles to get the unlocks get REALLY hard and require some real out of the box thinking so just... keep that in mind before picking this up. If you're a more casual puzzle game player you may need a guide or assistance as they require some really out of the box thinking, the last one I needed to beat the game had me stumped for like a half hour.

This is a game of infiltration, your goal is to get into the ship accomplish your goal using the tools you brought and get out. The rules are easy to understand but hard to master. There's many tools that can help and learning the ins and outs of those tools will help you accomplish more and more crazy missions.

There's a lot of things happening but easier missions are much manageable so sticking to easy medium missions early is a great way to learn, and then you can slowly increase the difficulty as you get items and gadgets. Definitely recommended if:

* you're looking for either a fun pickup and put down game, missions are usually pretty short, and so it's totally fun to just hop on and play a few missions with no real stakes.
* Looking for a really deep game with a lot of situational complexity that regularly pushes you into high stakes scenarios where you're expected to observe and plan on a moments notice based on predictable but challenging AI.

I realize these are 2 different players but hear me out. If you dig into it, there's a lot to learn, and it can be really satisfying to look at a ship layout and make a plan to infiltrate the ship, but if you're not into that kind of thing, you'll naturally learn the ins and outs by just playing and realizing your mistakes and taking that knowledge with you into the next mission.

The main complaint people seem to have is that this is a true roguelike through and through, when you die it's OVER! You lose all the items and progress you've made on that character. Most negative reviews I've seen all seem to be upset over the roguelike aspect, but this is more or less the point, you play, you lose, you realize what you did wrong, you start over.

Best pixel art software out there, has some things I'd still want like being able to whitelist and launch/run scripts automatically but that's nit-picky. If you do Pixel Art this is the one application to get.

Early Access Review
Wants you to install a program that has kernel level access to your PC in order to detect "cheats" in a "game" that's about virtually hanging out with people on the internet.

Why? Because modders were making mods, some of which had features that are now locked behind a $10 a month subscription.

The Good:
* At this time VRChat is now on par with where the game was 2 years ago with a modded client.
The Bad:
* Rippers can still rip your avatar(this is getting harder but still an issue)
Ugly:
* You still lag every person in the game down to 10 fps when you switch avatars

"Security Update" my butt.

[Updated 2024 to at least point out that they eventually brought the client up to speed but holy hell has it taken a long time.]

This game is the ultimate masterclass example of "Show don't tell", the game and soundtrack has a great story, world building, and atmosphere, without practically saying a single word the entire game.

Gameplay boils down to essentially a first person "I Spy" game where you have to take a photo containing the complete request like "Take a photo with a zoom lens that has 5 birds in it" This is a lot of fun as you scour the level not just for the items in question, but a good place to take the photo so you can get just the right angle.

The clever bit is that asking you to take time to look at everything to find the items forces you to look at things that aren't the item you're looking for, but identifying the environment around you gives you a ton of insight into the world, the people, and what's happening.

The game is super fun, and all the unlockable lenses and upgrades are fun to take back into previous levels to get more creative photos and find new secrets. It's worth picking up and experiencing it for yourself, at least the base game, though if you like the base game, I'd recommend the DLC as it adds new lens options for really interesting photos.

I'm a really big fan of the series, and while the story within the game itself is good, unfortunately I can't recommend this game overall. Without spoilers, I believe the ending of DRV3 devalues and waters down the series overall and spoils the storytelling and worldbuilding of DR1 and DR2. If you played DR1 and DR2 you should just go watch the Danganronpa Anime(which completes the stories from DR1 and DR2) and then just stop there.

Spoiler Lite version for those who played DR1 and DR2 and NEED to know why I think this:
The ending of this game uproots the cannon of the series in a big way, and basically invalidates all previous games by basically saying that DR1 and DR2 were never actually real

FULL spoiler version for the extremely curious:
The ending reveals that Danganronpa is a "Real Fiction" TV show that is INSANELY popular. What it means by "Real Fiction" is that the show is so popular that people will WILLINGLY sign up(for various reasons) to be completely brainwashed, given fake memories and implanted backstories, and then told to kill each other to win the killing game.

The V in Danganronpa V3 is the roman numeral 5 so this is the 53rd killing game, and the game implies that this is the same for DR1 and DR2 and that all the characters and events of DR1 and DR2 are just fiction designed/created by Team Danganronpa as entertainment for their "Real Fiction" Show.

The reason this upsets me is because as mentioned by doing this it waters down the first 2 which had really done a great job at building this interesting world, and then DRV3 just throws it all away.

The short version is that RimWorld is best described as "It's about the journey, not the destination"

RimWorld is a "story generator" where you'll try and help direct the colonists to survival, events will more than likely disrupt your plans, and what you get from it is a very complex and deep set of systems that when events are strung together turn into an epic Sci-Fi story.

While I absolutely recommend the game, I admit that RimWorld is a strange game because RimWorld isn't a game you play to "win" instead it's a game that you play for the experience.

The game may seem "hard" especially if you tend to be overly sensitive to loss, this is a game that has both tragedy and triumph in equal parts.

The cool thing is RimWorld's systems will help prevent you from ever being completely wiped out and having no way to continue, but also won't give you such an easy time that there's no challenge anymore, by increasing or decreasing the difficulty and types of events you get, you'll always have something to do.

---- One RimWorld Story (Skip if not interested) ----

An example I had recently was I spent weeks planning and building, but there was turmoil in the camp. A couple of my colonists Jen and Quazar decided to get married, which upset one of the other colonists Helix as he had been perusing them. This made them very unhappy despite being in a fairly happy overall having a good quality of life.

Winter struck and it became cold, a cold snap started killing off a lot of the outdoor crops, and food became limited, as the colonists rushed to take the remaining wheat and meat and creating pemmican to make sure none of it spoiled over the winter months. Pemmican is obviously not great to eat and such overall made everyone upset but none more so than Helix who at this point had been cooped up inside, freezing, hungry and still dealing with their feelings of being rebuffed by Jen.

Fed up Helix had a verbal disagreement with Quazar that led to a fist fight, and after beating up Quazar went to get medical attention for his bruises, from the doctor Nova. However as soon as they were patched up, Helix went had a mental break and began lighting EVERYTHING on fire. The whole base burned and the still injured Quazar, Jen and Nova weren't able to stop the spread fast enough to not have the fire destroy most of the supplies. Luckily after half the base burned down a morning spring shower rolled through and put out the rest saving at least some of the base.

Both Helix and Quazar eventually died from their burns and other injuries getting infected and Jen and Nova had to slaughter all the animals for food. They shared a single bedroom for a few months, and struggled through spring to replant crops and traded all the weapons and materials they had left that survived to trade with wandering traders to help recover.

Eventually Jen and Nova were joined by a wanderer named Vega, they rebuilt the base, and Vega's higher intelligence let them quickly research tools for making greenhouses to help prevent a future cold-snap killing all the food.

Jen eventually remarried, marrying Vega about a year later. Eventually they managed to build a ship and escape to build a better life, leaving Nova behind who's story continued.

--- End ---

The cause of the chaos and the later arrival of wandering traders and Vega in the story wasn't really random, it was RimWorld's safeties. With everything going smooth and a vast wealth of items and happy colonists, it started seeding some chaos in order to cause me to have to deal with some challenges, then after the chaos it saw a sudden drop in overall colony value and responding by giving some random events that helped like adding a new colonist that had valuable skills and sending wandering traders to be able to rebuild my base with essential supplies.

None of the above is explicitly told either, a lot of it was just me connecting the events into a coherent story. I noticed Helix was sad, checked the mood tab, saw he was sad because he had hit on Jen. Later Jen gets married, and then much later Helix throws a tantrum burning down the colony. I personally connected the dots but the tools were there for me to make that story on my own.

The game also allows you to make starting scenarios that lets you change the supplies the characters start with, allowing you to roleplay a bunch of scenarios. Try making them stupid easy and have everyone start off rich and watch as their high standards of living cause drama as their wealth runs out, or make the game super hard and start off with no supplies at all and build up from there. The game is what you put into it.

A comparison might be that the game is like Minecraft. Minecraft while the overall goal is to beat the Ender Dragon and "win" like you can win by creating a space ship and escaping in the crash-landed scenario, you can spend near infinite time building and upgrading and such before going and doing that.

More than likely you won't "win" a scenario for a long time. In the 250+ hours I've played of this game I have created so many different colonies with different characters and scenarios, and I have only once actually eventually "won" the primary quest of building a space ship and leaving the planet. But winning isn't really the point as mentioned it's a "story generator" and if you can get past that, this game has a lot to offer.

Overall, if you're interested in a sandbox survival game with deep mechanics, this is one of the best options out there.

7/10 - Pickup if you can get the deluxe version for $30 or under.

A slightly easier Dark Souls but with a pretty decent anime story. Has it's flaws though that really drag the game down for those not looking for EXACTLY: "Vampire themed Dark Souls/Bloodborne with Anime Titties" 1

Note I have more like 50 hours of play, but I played on Xbox One first and got the PC one because this game chugs at the worst of times on my i9-9900k and RTX 2070 let alone a 7 year old, Xbox One Day One edition.

Good:
  • Has the good parts of the core Dark Souls combat.
  • Character customization is real good.
  • Unique environment and story.
  • Lets you switch classes/styles/Perks and encourages switching to try things

Bad:
  • Can be grind-y at times since classes have individual levels and perks.
  • Dying is annoying, not hard just annoying. Like Dark Souls you drop the points you use for upgrades when you die.
  • Cp-op is mostly not worth it since only the host makes story progress

Ugly:
Just one, there's a character that plays a crucial role in the story, but they just suck as a character, they have absolutely no personality besides "Unreasonably huge anime tiddies" but they clearly want you to care for the character because they have some role later in the story, but she's just so intolerable that if I hadn't gotten more than 10 hours into the game, this review would have been a "Not Recommended".

What can I say about the 7th guest. It was a real technical achievement when it released, one of the first games to use FMVs extensively. It's a puzzle game like Myst where you go around and find puzzles when solved reveals some info about the house the occupants and the story.

The good:
Interesting story
Some funny acting
Good atmosphere

The bad:
Moving around the house is pretty annoying as the animations are super slow
Some puzzles are very RNG heavy(especially ones where you vs a computer)
Confusing what unlocks via puzzles, basically needs a guide.

Overall I'd recommend this to someone who is looking for a game where they explore a bit, then just get a non-spoiler guide so you know what puzzles you need to complete to progress. If you like Myst and like corny acting this is probably worth the price.
