"How did we end up at the children's hospital? Oh dear! Little wheelchairs flying through the air! Crippled orphans exploding on impact! Why? WHY?! Little dead bodies floating on waves of blood and gore! The carnage! Oh no... don't do that! The other orphans are feasting on the dead bodies in the middle of the road! What's wrong with you?! Your... your animals! Animals I say! You all deserve to die!"

Very arcade like, very simple, a lot of fun. The demo does a VERY good job of helping one decide if they will like the full game or not, as it is essentially that. I find the game very enjoyable despite how repetitive it can be but the perk system does make it a bit different each time you play. After getting enough exp from killing zombies you level up and choose a perk from a randomly generated list. Some perks can be upgraded into others and can eventually become super powerful. There are also many different weapons and power-ups, 4 characters/classes, online co-op, arcade survival mode, etc. While it isn't exactly fresh, it does what it does well. Try the demo, while the full game is better it is essentially more of that.
First of all Cave Story is a free indie title that has been fan translated and can still be downloaded. Cave Story + is mostly the same game with some additions. It has toggle for updated visuals (original and a more detailed "HD" option), toggle for music (original and the updated score done by the guy behind Super Meat Boy's soundtrack), as well as Steam achievements, challenge modes and future content. During Christmas we saw completely updated visuals (again, you could toggle them) where everything from characters to environements went Christmas themed. The game controls very well, I love the music, and has multiple endings. An excellent game, pick it up!
Naturally due to similar gameplay and times of launch this will be compared to Dungeon Defenders so let me say this, if you are more interested in single player, buy this, if you are more interested in co op, get DD. OMD! is a part of a new sub-genre of tower defense. You earn points by killing orcs and other monsters that try to escape into your rift that you spend on traps and special abilities to help prevent them making it through. You have a wide variety to choose from, floor spikes, summoned archers, an automatic swinging mace overhead, and some equipment for the Apprentice to use himself like his bladestaff, and fire ring. If you can finish the final wave without your rift counter falling to 0 or under, you win the level. Some enemies count as 1 point if they make it through others can even count as 5, and if your Apprentice dies he ressurects but you lose 5 rift points. It has a great sense of humor and good challange, I highly recommend it.
