Didn't play that game much, but im impressed with it! Your game perfomance strongly depends on your playing skills.
You have to learn it, study characters and their skills, create new playing tactics for yourself. But it is very enjoyable and there is alot of things to discover!
If you like games where you read stats of items, trying to create an ultimate inventory and character stat combination to beat your opponents, think about strategy in real time (always like "charge, no... wait, retreat... attack! NOO! Too many of them, fallback!" ) this is the game for you.
And I think any gamer should try dota at least once. It is a unique genre.
