When it comes to matching theme to gameplay, there are a lot of good options that could work for Zombies even in a card game. Zombie cards could spread an 'infection' to the rest of the cards in a stack, putting pressure on players to priorities clearing some cards over others.
Increase the meta layer for the game leaning into survival themes. A light mission structure that hides 'resources' as buried cards or extra 'suits' (2 of shells, 4 of rations), tasking players to balance risk & rewards where each move generates more needed resources by at the cost of the zombie horde getting ever closer.
