Wow. Just finished my first playthrough, 8h on the spot. This is a stunning game, both in its gorgeous aesthetic and compelling storytelling. Lots of ways to customize your playthrough for a fairly unique experience. 11 weapons, a counter-system, 10 global handicaps you can set to increase difficulty, at least 20 stat boosting equippable 'spirits', a handful of skills for each weapon (as well as non-weapon specific skills), and a 2-sided upgrade path for each weapon (freely interchangable at any time in the Bastion). This game is a perfect 10 in my book. Only flaw is that when it really started to pick up, it ended. I suppose new game+ and score attack modes will extend the life however. Buy this!
I was excited for this game leading up to its release, and enjoyed it for a time. However, as soon as I cleared the game once, and unlocked "the womb" levels, the addiction was beginning to take hold. The introduction of Sheol and a ton of new items/monsters in the Halloween update only served to fan the flames of this amazing indie title. I'm about 85% to full completion, and highly recommend this game to anyone into skill-based, action-oriented, highly randomized dungeoneering. It starts out fairly difficult, but once you learn enemy patterns and begin to memorize item abilities (or just reference the wiki), progression (while increasing general difficulty), enables stronger powerups making it a bit easier. 5/5
