If you never played a Dota-like game before, I suggest you look into it first. This isn't like any shooter or RPG game where you can just jump in and learn on your own, you have to put actual effort to learn to play this.
Also dying gives the enemy gold, and takes away some of your gold. If you die, your entire team gets a boot to the head. Enough boots make your team angry and then you lose.
It's addicting. It can make you rage hard. It's Dota.
