I decided to retract my earlier recomendation and repost. I hate to say it but while I did have some fun in a single playthrough of the game (After an hour or 2 of playthrough 2 I didn't find much more in it), I haven't really gone back to it. There's 7 zombie types (the 8th and last type isn't introduced really and is similar to two others) and that's pretty much it for enemies. It's almost a carbon copy of borderlands (but with melee), I did think the melee was better than L4D2 but I haven't touched this game since beating it. Story was far better than Borderlands I thought, but having not gone back to it since beating the game, I have nothing more to say about it. 6/10, fun with friends, sidequests get repetitive.
It lacks challenge to me; this is a game that needs steeper punishments for death, like KF or L4D, and it needs more enemy types IMO for a full length campaign. Last boss was a joke, see last screenshot if you don't mind spoilers.
Curb stomping is fun sometimes.
Pros: Probably the best strategy game I have ever played. Units all have advantages and disadvantages (spears > cavalry > archers > swords > spears). Multiplayer consists of up to 4v4 battles, customize your units and your avatar/general with skills and abilities.
Campaign takes the good parts of the Heroes of Might and Magic game series (castles, city management, unit upkeep) but with a much more advanced combat system. There is also a co-op campaign (2 players? I'm not sure, but you can also do vs campaign I think).
Cons: I had to upgrade my sound, video, AND my BIOS to play this game. Computer wouldn't come back online for thirty minutes after the bios, after several reboots. Left it alone for 20 minutes, put the thumb drive back in, rebooted again and it worked. I have an ASUS P5K-E and I used ASUS EZ Flash with the latest BIOS (see ASUS support site or whatever site your motherboard is for your latest drivers).
It was worth doing, fun game :D.
Only 25 hours in, probably nearing the end of the game on the hardest difficulty. Difficulty-wise, the game is only difficult if you pick the wrong fights. I found the melee to be very entertaining, although when you find the Lead Pipe, Ripper, and Regal Club, the game becomes astonishingly easy, even with the hardcore settings.
I've never played any other Fallout games, only got it for the silly treasure hunt, but I must say, it's a fun game, and the quests are all in-depth and catch my interest, with multiple ways of completing them based on your character's build (though the game favors a high speech rating, but even then you can access just about everything in the game without any pre-requisites, though certainly some tasks become easier when you have, say, high science to shut off the turret system in a facility before you enter).
Good game, not sure how it stands against Fallout 3 but it's entertaining to say the least.
