I see. I don't think I'll have any performance issues with a GTX 1070 @1080p but will give it a shot and see the difference :D

"Controls the use of multithreaded optimization for all 3D games on systems with multi-core/HyperThreaded CPUs". For some DX11 games pretty helpful, for some others not. You should test it with every game if it helps with performance and then set it to off or on instead of setting it to auto, except if you don't care :D. But DX12 does the same thing for systems with more cores/threads, so it's kind of unnecessary to have it on. They could stand in each others way.

Hmm it's currently set to AUTO so if any application requires it and benefits from it, it is used I guess. Most newer apps can benefit from it too. What does Thread Optimization do exactly?

Try disabling threaded optimization in nvidia control panel for this. It should give you more fps and I think this tranfers to all dx12 games, if properly optimized.
