You have crashed on a strange planet, your ship is destroyed, your team is missing and upon exiting your escape pod you find hostile aliens that want nothing more than to gut you with spears. As you progress youll find new weapons like a missile launcher, rapid fire rifle and flamethrower (And plenty more!) all with alternative fire and a good variety of enemies to see what works best. The further you go, the more clues you find about your missing friends. Keep your eyes open for visable holes with power ups, though youll have to find the hidden entrances in the walls and ceilings to get their goodies. Levels almost always differ greatly. Some are linear, some are completely open for exploring, some objectives are just get to the end while others require you to collect and return to base. Over all a splendid (But short) game. If you enjoy old school 2D shooters, jetpacks, fighting aliens and have $10, this could be a short but sweet treat for you.
Verdict: Great but wait for a sale.
To be honest there isnt much to complain about this game. The graphics arent blow your mind incredible but still very good but suffers from a lot of gray themed locations (Even outdoors isnt that colorful). The game play is a solid overhead shooter with all you'd expect from it. Weapons are again, what you expect, shotguns and flamethrowers and that short of thing along with some energy based ones too. Cant say I cared about the story enough but it appears to be an infestation themed story where monsters suddenly appear and start trying to kill everyone and its up to you to kill them all and complete objectives to save the day. (Think Alien movies, deadspace etc etc.) I dont know why but actual soldiers in games are useless and it always comes down to an engineer to get things done. Having said all that Its that old school shoot everything till its dead and I wouldnt want it any other way.
Although basically the same as Trine in terms of gameplay (puzzle platforming), Trine 2 does look absolutely incredible. The colors are always on display and the details in everything are stunning. Zoya, Pontius and Amadeus have really been balanced out and now all 3 have become almost invaluable while in Trine, Zoya was pretty much the only one you needed. All 3 have new skills to unlock including picking up enemies with magic as Amadeus, charging through enemies like an unstoppable ram as Pontius (Also great for jumping gaps!) and Zoyas ability to become "Hidden" when standing still. Although in the last game, you could find items in chests with special powers like breathing under water or being able to revive you after death (Not that its a hard game. The puzzles are challenging though and require lots of quick reflexes or just a cheating mind <3) They have been replaced by poems and concept art as far as Ive seen but the game is much more balanced for it.
Definitely worth buying.
