Marc   Derbyshire, United Kingdom (Great Britain)
Hello to anyone looking at this. My name is Marc and I live in the UK. I like pizza, pot noodles and gaming in my underpants. This is my current favourite thing. Aldious - Die For You

So anyway I've been gaming for quite a long time you could say. For example I own a ZX Spectrum and the first game I played on this was Chequered Flag from Psion back in the 80s. I also have systems such as a CBM64 and Atari STfm, but the rest as they say is history.

I have a pile of shame which is my unplayed video game pile. It's more of a mountain if I'm honest. I should also mention that I have a digital pile... Can you have a pile of digital? Anyway loads and loads of games I've purchased via Steam, Origin and Uplay that I am yet to enjoy.

I also have a blog that I haven't updated for years (I will find the time to give this a spruce up and add some more content soon) and a twitter account that I use now and again.

In recent years we've seen a new dawn for the dead in video games and so it's perhaps unsurprising that The Walking Dead comic books by Robert Kirkman and hugely popular TV show by AMC has been given a video game release. Like a movie from the master George Romero, zombie games often have the word 'dead' in the title: If not walking, they are left 4, rising or on an island. However unlike a George Romero movie these games place very little emphasis on the previous lives of the zombies before they joined the ever swelling ranks of the undead. In all other zombie themed games I've played previously there is no sense that these infectious and deadly creatures were once your neighbours, your friends or even husbands, wives and children. Indeed by contrast the Walking Dead game is not an all out action game it is very much story driven and one requires as much watching as it does playing.

Your adventure starts with you (Lee Everett) convicted of murder being taken to jail. Whilst on your way to serve time for your crime the zombie apocalypse has started and a crash on the highway leaves you free but dazed, confused and surrounded by the hungry undead. I won't say much more about the plot but soon after you meet Clementine, a young girl left on her own and you will perhaps agree with me that she is one of the best characters ever created in a video game.

Throughout the episodes you will meet lots of other survivors and every charcter is incredibly well designed and accompanied by professional voice acting that is convincing and appropriate for the setting. The cel shaded art style fits perfectly with the comic book series really brings the characters to life. But the real beauty of the game is how you interact with other characters and how they ultimately relate to you, the decisions and the convesations that you have. There are a few crossroads that you find yourself at and you'll be forced to make a choice, quite often with very little time to consider the ramifications. Many choices have consequences and can mean life or death for those around you.

The game is played very much like a point and click adventure allowing you to examine objects and interact with other characters via a dialog option This play style is broken up with quick time style events when action is required which might be fighting off a zombie with a weapon or bare hands, escaping from an enemy, avoiding gunfire or accessing a building. It's a surprisingly satisfying experience and these action sequences can often be very tense and nerve-racking as you'll often find yourself in a mini panic as you struggle to survive.

This was an emotional rollercoaster and I found myself sat in silence pondering what I might of done differently as the credits rolled up the screen. Indeed, I was sad that experience was over and I was left wanting to find out more. What happened to a character in particular? I wanted and in fact needed to find out. I started season 2 and very much like a binge on Netflix found myself saying "just one more episode!"
