I love the hell out of this game. It's what Rock Band and Guitar Hero should have been in the first place; Playing to music with real instruments!
The game has many great features, such as the game automatically adjusting difficulty on the fly, so that you're never forced to play things below your skill level (or above), technique challenges that are pretty easy to pick up, but challenging to master, and games that hide techniques and skills underneath the guise of minigames, so that learning is actually enjoyable and not tedious.
This game is good for either aspiring guitar players who are looking for a not-boring place to start, right up to serious guitar players that want to hone their skills or play a game that involves doing what they enjoy.
There is also a very wide array of songs to choose from, both supplied with the game, and dlc, as well as both guitar and bass modes, as well as local coop (if you have more than one cable).
I do not, however, recommend buying the game online, unless you are 100% sure you are able to buy the required hardware cable from somewhere, or have it readily available, as you cannot use any old guitar cable.
Also, obviously, you need your own electric guitar. You do not need pedals or an amplifier however, so that's a plus.
tl;dr game is fantastic and underrated, and is worth picking up from your local game store, especially if you either want to learn guitar/bass or enjoy games like guitar hero.
Given a second chance, and a bunch of patches a year and a half later, and this game is actually playable.
Can still be increidbly unstable on certain hardware, especially if you dont have up to date drivers.
Worth it if its on sale, since once you can actually play it it's better than citiesXL
Another fun and quirky game from doublefine productions. Gameplay is pretty fun, but it would be made much better by the addition of an in game map, mouse movement and voice acting.
