The dedicated server is only if you want to host but not play yourself, just search in the store for Age of Chivarly and download the standard one. Hope that helps :)

I find TF2 too be a really great game, with a decently mature community, it is however a rather daunting feeling to join this late with so few weapons to start off with.
Valve however continues to provide contect reguarly and keep it at a low price.
