Early Access Review
This has a very interesting and highly provocative and morbid story. It really thrives on the relationship and dynamic between its two protagonists. I also like the art and think it's expressive and very fitting.
Wish there were more games like this. I'm definitely looking forward to the future episodes and would recommend this to anyone who's a bit open-minded and can appreciate edgy character-driven stories far away from the usual.

A game about what it can mean to be "The Chosen One". What does this impression of carrying the fate of the world on your shoulders do to yourself and how does it affect the relationship to the ones you love? Minute of Islands tries to answer these questions and aims to put an antithesis on the classical hero's journey.
Gameplay-wise this is more or less "just" a walking simulator with some light platforming and puzzle elements. The focus is definitely on the narration here. And the stunning and quite unique visual style is where this game really shines.
I enjoyed this a lot, but be warned: This is definitely not for everyone and might not live up to more conventional expectations in terms of gameplay as well as story.

This is way more a rogue-like than a souls-like, so the tag "souls-like" is very misleading here. I definitely expected something different. Also the controls are pretty bad in my opinion and sadly can't be changed. I can't recommend it.

While the gameplay is only a mix of well known elements in the genre (climbing, jumping, puzzle solving) and the ending may be a bit disappointing, it's definitely been the absolutely wonderful soundtrack that made this game an outstanding experience for me. The art style does also work really well.
This game has pretty nice and varied puzzles that are just easy enough to not being an obstacle in one's progress through the game. After all you'll want to figure out and understand what's actually going on here.

No, just no.

There's a lot wrong with this game. What you do is basically just scour a maze-like map for certain items that let you open a door behind which a boss fight awaits. The combat feels really clunky. Inventory management is unnecessarily complicated as there are too many different items with exactly the same purpose. Controls (I played with a controller) are weirdly configured and can't be remapped.

And a word about the Lovecraft lore: yes, it is there. But it feels incoherent, randomly mixed together, without any clear direction.

Because all of this, I'd definitely advise against this game. It's just not fun in any aspect.

If you like good point & click adventures you should really avoid this game. The only positive thing about it are actually its visuals (backgrounds only, not the characters) and the technique used to create that special look. Everything else like writing, story, puzzles or characters (all important elements in a game like this) are a huge disappointment and some of the worst examples I've ever seen in the genre.

The setting (rural West-Germany in 1967) did actually have a lot of potential and the developers where obviously trying to create something in the spirit of Twin Peaks, but failed miserably. There is neither an exciting mystery nor any interesting characters. And be sure not to expect any kind of satisfying closure at the end. Not to mention the puzzles that are just dumb most of the time. Well, at least they don't stand in the way too much.

So, to not waste any more words, if you are in the mood for a nice adventure game, go play anything from Wadjet Eye Games, but forget about Truberbrook.

A real little indie gem. You have access to an ever-increasing amount of surveillance cameras during the course of the game, in which you experience more or less complex little stories that you can influence yourself. The range of these stories goes from funny to bizarre to heartwarming. You can often decide for yourself whether at all or in what way you interact with them, and do this in a morally good to absolutely antisocial way.

In addition to monitoring the various camera screens and collecting as much information as possible, the daily routine of the player character is also simulated. Here you have to provide enough food, sleep and - most importantly - money to finance your life. While there are various ways to make money, the most interesting ones of course have to do with the monitored cameras and the people in them.

Another nice thing about this game is that multiple playthroughs do pay off. On one hand you can vary your behavior and thereby achieve different results. On the other hand, the cameras that you unlock in the course of the game are randomly chosen for you each time, so that you experience new stories in a new playthrough.

I really had a lot of fun with the game and made several playthroughs in a row. Therefore, I can without hesitation recommend it to anyone who appreciates unusual and creative game ideas and took a liking in games like "Papers, Please" and "Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You".

In Visual Novels story (and characters) is almost all that matters. And this one was just boring and pointless. If New Game+ should improve this, then I don't understand the whole New Game+ decision at all because the game completely failed to motivate me for another playthrough.

It was a true pleasure to play this game. Uncovering more and more information, finding new keys or codes and putting together the puzzle pieces one by one, all this felt really satisfying. It took some time to get into it. But once I had a rough overview of the town's people and their relations to one another I started to get sucked into the story and also cared about the characters more and more. That said, I had no other choice than to find every piece of information to be able to uncover the truth in the end.
This is not an easy or casual game an there is no handholding in any way. I think it's a very "mature" game in terms of gameplay and what it demands from its player - the need to make notes for example. Because of that the game is certainly not suited for everyone. But I for my part simply have to congratulate and thank the developers for the sophisticated puzzle they laid out for me.

A great game. And this is undoubtedly the best version of it. The 60fps alone make a huge difference in comparison with the original pc-release. People somewhat complain about the high price, but I think it's worth it. When you hear that the same could be achieved with the original version (Prepare to die Edition) and the DSFix mod then this is simply not true. There were always glitches and problems connected with it. Also, jolly cooperation works better now than in the original where only the host was able to heal summoned coop partners.

The game itself is hard but fair. Definitely not suited for everyone as it has a very steep learning curve, but always worth every minute you invest into it. Once you understand how this game works there are very few others that offer fighting mechanics as perfect, fun and rewarding as this one.

So all in all: a big recommendation!
