Master of Orion for the 21st century. Even though what I'm playing is an alpha, it looks and plays like a gold master. The UI - and everything else - is already delightfully polished. The graphics in general are stellar (see what I did there?). If you like 4X space games, Buy This Game. Hell, if you like 4X games of any kind, Buy It.
Polished, fun. It's familiar while also providing some wonderful new ideas and twists on hoary cliches of the MMO world. The background lore is and provides the first rationale for immortal players that seems to work.
If you've been wanting to dip your toe into something MMO, give Rift a try. If you're tired of the DIKUmud tradition, it may not be the game for you - but it might bring enough new to the table to get you intereste again.
