I wanted this to be great better than RFG but sadly it's not. I held off buying until it was on sale for around £10 and DLC was £1 and I am glad I didn't pay anymore. The entire game poses no challenge and I played it on hard (perhaps I should have set in on insane!). The AI is thick as sh*t especially the cultists who will either stand stuck to the spot or run straight in to your line of fire, no flanking, using cover or even crouching these guys don't care for living the aliens a little better but still it's easy. The only time I died was when stumbled down a hole (most of the game is ridiculously dark) or blew a hole beneath me and fell in lava. The walker suit and all vehicles make those levels a breeze and therefore boring.
It's saving graces is the enhanced level of destruction, improved sounds (except the Enforcer), new imaginative weapons (Magnetic gun is a lot of fun) and Co-Op Infestion on hard or insane on later waves (if you can find 3 other people playing it!).
Still the best open world game in games history to date and great value, what other games SP offers over 80hrs of gameplay without getting boring. I haven't even touched on the MP yet but this game strikes me as being a better SP as the controls like cover and shooting using a controller arn't responsive enough for me.
I love god games and due to the lack of them I was pleased to hear about this game. I was not disappointed, it is a genius sandbox, well programmed with only a few minor annoyances from it being a clear port from a XBLA game. It promises much more should it had a bigger budget or desire to be more than 10hrs of play which is what it took me to complete all levels and all challenges. I'd love it if they'd bring out DLC with more imaginative levels so much more could be acheived with the physics. For a little over a tenner you really can't grumble. I especially enjoyed the last level in a gigantic volcano it was a lot of fun.
