Dungeon Rushers

Time to raid some dungeons, get some loot, and then young adventurer, die a horrible death… wait a minute.
I will add a TL;DR at the end.

Gameplay

This story starts with Elian, a kid who finally decides to start raiding dungeons, get loot, and have an adventure. Along the way he meets friends and uncovers a horrible scandal in the midst.

The gameplay consists of going through levels/dungeons and trying to find the loot and get out. There are optional objectives to unlock a Heroic variation for the level. As you beat more levels and level up, more characters will be available for your dungeon raiding party along with better loot and gear. The game contains a shop and a crafting aspect to buy or create your own equipment and potions. If you do not want to constantly raid to try and get the same piece of equipment or loot all the time for the party you might as well do it yourself.

There is a large world map with multiple levels allowing for hours of playing through the campaign (without the Heroic variations added in). The actual levels consist of a grid of different rooms littered with enemies, traps, events, some small puzzle-like areas, and of course the loot. In the dungeon you will move space by space to find these goodies (or baddies) and of course the loot. Each member of your party will contribute unique dungeon abilities (non-combat within the grid dungeon) and combat abilities. As the story is continued the scenery will change as well since you will be advancing to different areas within the world map adding new looks for dungeons and new types of monsters.

The game’s combat is turn-based and centers around speed for deciding turn orders. Each member of your party will have three different unique possibilities to them when it is their turn. The game contains a very interesting multiplayer aspect where you can create your own dungeons with the multiplayer limitations or make a fully unlimited version for the steam workshop. In multiplayer you have limitations on your dungeon, but those can be upgraded to allow for more freedom as this is the base other players will try to plunder from. When trying to look for multiplayer dungeons you never know how hard (or easy) the dungeon will be.

Graphics/Sounds

The world map is designed like an adventurer’s map and it’s well, very pretty to simply look at. Inside the dungeon, as mentioned before, it is a grid map. The graphics within the dungeon are more pixelated, but still refined in look to make it nice to look at. Combat is also quite refined within its art and characters on the battlefield.

The music is relaxing and well composed to fit the atmosphere of adventure and explorations along with the style of combat.

Pros/Cons

Pros

+ Relaxing experience
+ Large amount of possible gameplay time
+ Multiplayer and steam workshop dungeons
+ Interesting story
+ Good replay value

Cons

- Early access bugs
- Possibility of getting repetitive later on (not for all, but some)

Personal Thoughts

Dungeon Rushers is simply fun in my opinion. Something that does not require constant attention or meticulous detailing in the thought process, but is simply relaxing and enjoyable. So far I really like the story and the fact that this game has any sort of multiplayer, which in turn allows me to take a break from the campaign with no problems is great. I like the game’s dungeon raiding RPG style and so it was a more casual experience for myself. I did run into bugs since this is an early access title, but otherwise there was not much that the game did wrong unless it goes against a personal taste.

TL:DR

Dungeon Rushers is a dungeon raiding game with turn based combat. It has a nice and long campaign with an interesting story and a fitting atmosphere. The thing that extends the potential time you will spend in this game and is a great feature is the multiplayer and steam workshop dungeons. If you like the style of gameplay that is going through dungeons, fighting, crafting, buying from a weird shop, and of course looting there is a huge amount of time you could easily spend within this game.
