This game is a gift that just keeps on giving! I've got a ton to say, but all you need to do is read the header and the bold bits to know whether or not this game is worth your time. It is. Go play the demo for free and then plan a vacation from work - this game is HUGE and BEAUTIFUL!

Castlevania & Chrono Trigger Had a Baby and its Name is ASTLIBRA Revision
Do you enjoy addicting combat? Compelling stories? Memorable characters? A KICKASS soundtrack that sticks with you even after you've stopped playing? This game has all of that, and so much more! Look, when I first saw this game, I told myself, "damn, this looks a bit dated. I haven't played a game like this in a long while, I'll probably not like it." I proceeded to try the free demo, went absolutely wild with all the fun equipment, magic, and tools you're given to play with, and got extremely interested in the brief bit of story that was teased. It was a little overwhelming at first due to how much stuff you're given to test out, but I bit the bullet, bought the game, and went on an emotional roller coaster that kept me invested every step of the way!

Story (no spoilers): My god, where to begin? You're an orphan who got separated from your childhood friend, and you set out on a quest to find her. A simple enough premise, but add a talking crow, some magic scales that give you the ability to travel through space and time, and you've got yourself a recipe for a plot that will keep you guessing up to the very end! You'll meet so many wonderful, memorable characters that will win your heart and make you want to do everything in your power to help them, even if that means making some very difficult decisions. In the end, you'll grow to love your companions, especially your talking crow, and you'll come to appreciate how much you've accomplished together.

Time and fate are, of course, key themes of this story, and you'll leave every session thinking about how the story relates to your own life, and be inspired to take your precious time on this earth more seriously. I can not emphasize enough how much this story will stick with you as you slowly but surely make your way through every chapter.... it's a masterpiece.

15 YEARS IN THE MAKING: Did I mention that a single dude poured his heart and soul into this game? Every played Stardew Valley? That game had a similar development cycle, and it was friggen AMAZING - same holds true here - Keizo has truly perfected his vision for the experience he wants players to feel as they progress through this game, and I can 100% attest to that. I'm not ashamed to admit I wanted to cry a few times through the story.

ADDICTING COMBAT: Ok, let's say you don't care much for story - that's ok, you're gonna love this game's combat. Swords, hammers, maces, axes, magic staves/wands, bows, crossbows, guns, and much, much more are available for you to use and abuse on your enemies. You've got an extremely rewarded leveling system that makes you really feel like you're growing in strength from your battles, and it's extremely fun being able to harvest materials and craft new equipment for yourself as you progress through the map.

EXTREMELY CATCHY/MEMORABLE SOUNDTRACK: Friends, when you boot up that demo and start fighting a few demons, the very first song you hear is going to give your ears an orgasm. I kid you not, the official game has the most BADASS music to go along with you fighting beginner enemies! Keizo didn't need to go that hard, but that's just an appetizer for what you're going to be enjoying as you play. The music, like the story and combat, gets better, and better, AND BETTER, AND BETTER. Every single stage of this game kept blowing me away with how great the soundtrack is!

I'm a guy who likes to exercise to kickass tunes, and I can tell you now, Astlibra Revision's soundtrack has been added to my lifting and cardio playlists. Simply put: this is the greatest JRPG music I've heard in a LONG while, and I've played a lot of fantastic JRPGs with banger soundtracks... this is in a league of its own... similar yet arguably better than the music you'd hear in the YS series.

TL;DR Look, I don't write reviews often. See that giant wall of text up there? It means: THIS GAME IS AMAZING! BUY IT RIGHT NOW! You could wait for a sale if you like, but I guarantee that this is one of those rare gems that's worth every single penny. You're going to remember this game for the rest of your life.

Thank you, Keizo, for sharing your passion and vision with the world. Your game has truly touched my heart and I've a greater appreciation for life and the journey I've taken to reach this point. We can't go back in time IRL, but you've taught me that we can always fight for a better future. Truly, this game is a masterpiece in every sense of the word...

Possibly one of the weakest killers they've released in recent history. Pig and Onryo are tons more fun and powerful than this killer, and that's saying something.

I'd pass on buying this DLC and recommend you get Gabriel with shards. The survivor is really nice, and his perks are decent. This killer, however, is a hard pass.

I don't often leave negative reviews, so take that for what it's worth. AVOID.

Wow, this was an absolute pleasure to play! Got it on sale for a dollar and, while it isn't perfect, it reminded me of my childhood games like Fable and Kameo: Elements of Power. While it's nowhere near as polished as those two, I think it definitely has its charm if you're willing to look past the jank.

If you're a fan of the Gothic series, or the games I mentioned previously, I think this'll definitely be a fun experience for you. Worth it at its base price, but definitely a must-buy on sale.

You have got to give this a try!

It's highly addictive despite how frustrating it can be at times. Perfectly imperfect. The RNG keeps you coming back for more and more.

Edited for the 2023 Steam Awards:

My original review stands, but I'd add that you might want to avoid if you've got a low tolerance for stressful gameplay.

My experience with the Far Cry games was limited to 2 and 3, until recently when a friend gifted me 5. After several hours of playing, I can safely say that I'm extremely happy to have given this a chance. I assumed Ubisoft had lost their stride after 3, but I was wrong. 5 is excellent and it definitely feels a lot different playing this after 2020 (the world is supposedly ending irl).

Either way, I'm definitely recommending you get this game ASAP if you're looking for a fun, open world to explore. It's packed with content and always keeps you on your toes.

It's pretty broken as it currently stands. The devs are promising to fix all the issues with mutations spawning in chaotic and unpredictable ways, nightmare being extremely unbalanced, decks being more important than skill, etc.

What was probably the most insulting was the recent update where they claimed to have been listening to player feedback (where most people were complaining about broken/op mutations), and decided to nerf the cleaners and buff all the zombies.

It's an ok game, but you're better off waiting for a sale.

Look, you really don't need to know more than this: the launch was terrible but the updates the devs released made the game amazing. Buy the game. Do it. It's addicting and super fun.

An excellent intro to the series for those new to fighting games. Great community, great memes, great times.

What an absolutely fantastic experience this was! If you've ever enjoyed Bioshock or System Shock, this game is totally worth your time. It'll make you question the mystery of consciousness, humanity's place in the universe, and your moral compass.

Story was great, combat was ok, and exploration was fantastic.

This is the Dragon Quest of eechi games. Amazing gameplay, good story, fantastic characters, fun combat: it has it all. You'll find that the combat actually becomes a lot more challenging as you progress, and the variety in monsters will always keep you interested. As for the comparison to Dragon Quest, you'll find that it has a similar gameplay loop: discover a new land, solve its problems, then move on to the next place: rinse and repeat. In addition, you'll find yourself traveling the seas and skies on your quest to save the world and marry lots of cute girls.

This game is worth every penny. Sure, the sexy bits are nice, I guess, but the gameplay is surprisingly addicting! Fantastic work, I'm just sad to see Steam banned the devs from releasing Evenicle 2 here... shame.

TL;DR
It's the best dang eechi game you'll ever play. Buy it.
