If there was ever a niche game, AI War: Fleet Command would fall into that category. It suffers from the same specialization as Sword of the Stars - just not that many people are interested in space-based grand strategy. I'll never understand that personally, but it's a shame that it's not more popular than it is. AI War: Fleet Command represents everything good about RTS and 4x games. You can really make the game what you want it to be. If you want to make it an APM-fest like StarCraft, you can. If you want it to be more about control and grand strategy ala Supcom, you can. The idea is clever, the gameplay is fantastic, the balance is good, the AI is amazing, and it all wraps up nicely into a package that you'd be insane to not try at least once. If I had the money, I'd buy all the DLC and the base game twice-over, that's how good it is. And this is one of maybe two or three games I would ever consider saying that about. 9/10. Would be 10/10, except the UI is kind of clunky.

BUY. IT.

A fun way to kill a few hours, Magicka takes your typical dungeon crawler game and takes a spin on it by allowing you to combine multiple elements to form various attacks. With a strong focus on the gameplay of it instead of the story or the graphics, it represents a return to everything I've ever loved most about video games: a casual way for me to play and have fun with my friends. Magicka is definitely not an easy game, however. It takes a lot of time and experimentation to find your own style of play and find out which spell combinations work well in a given situation. There's some imbalance in terms of which spells are the most powerful that I hope will be corrected in a later patch.
Before a balancing patch, however, several more patches need to be made to improve the stability of the game. The purchased game for me hasn't had any issues, but the demo is very unstable. It took me at least 4 tries to get through the single level it has in it because it kept randomly closing. 8/10
