aw man, I didn't mind sharing an alias with you, but now you're famous it kinda sucks. Everyone keeps asking "are you the map dude?" grats on getting published though.
Just found cp_glacier today and it's one of the prettiest maps I've seen. The freezing water is a nice touch, and so are the snowflakes. Unfortunately, there was no one else on the server, so I just wandered around looking at everything. Thanks for making such a great map! :)
What exactly do you mean when you say "supposed to have"?
Tweaking the respawn wave times are a way of balancing the map. When I created glacier, I based it on Valve's map cp_gravelpit and thought of a few things I wish gravelpit had. One of those things was that I wanted more battle at both A and B. A way of making that possible is to strengthen the defence to encourage teamwork from Blue's end. This is why the respawn wave times are set the way they are. If I would reverse the respawn times, giving blue a 3 second respawn time and red a 12 second respawn time, it'd unbalance the map by far.
Glacier have had near 50/50 win/loss statistics on both beta 1 and beta 2. So it's not like it's unbalanced.
Except when it's at normal it does the exact same thing. You have your attack and defend times backwards. Attack is supposed to have a shorter respawn time [Not 12 seconds w/o modifying] and defend is supposed to have the longer one [Not 3 seconds w/o modifying.]
The respawn times are set for each team individually. The respawn time is also affected by the amount of players playing. So setting mp_respawnwavetime will most likely mess things up.
I don't know if people addressed this or not, but for some reason Glacier's spawn times are inverted for me. Blue gets 9 second spawns and Red gets 0 second spawn with mp_respawnwavetime set to 7.
So, update just came out :D "* Added an optional per-map particle manifest called <mapname>_particles.txt, which should be located in the maps directory, so map authors can load custom particle files."
hello ace just tried running around the map and learning it, soon ill test it with some friends first thing i noticed is that most of the roofs are accesible and i like it :) i hate places that look like you can get to but you actually can't
but another thing is the lack of signs, I feel there's not enuogh signs telling you where is A and where is B. obviously ill learn it pretty fast but as a noob i kinda get lost.
great map anyway and great looks :) am trying to get one of the admins in our comuntiy to put it on a public server
I decided to remove the saw room because it's not really fit in a map which should be considered to be on a more professional level. It's fun but gimmicky.
We're also running both your maps :) Glacier has become a server favorite. I made some comments on the FPSBanana page under the name "Atroos" if you want to check it out
Mind if I add you to my list? It'd be easier to give some feedback once in a while. I'm currently doing that with the makers of Swiftwater, Cranetop, and a few others. Perhaps you could even stop by sometime while we're playing it :)
Thenks for the feedback guys! @SDS|GUILHERMÃO: Happy you like both my maps! Now, you mention A and B as the points that are lacking detail, and C is pretty much done. I think it's the other way around really; C is kinda plain whereas the other points are pretty detailed.
@Slench: I can't see how it could ruin that much. I personally like it, and there aren't many people who don't; at least from what I've heard.
your map cp-glacier is very good.. i like the frosty feel it has to it, but i must say that the teleporter effects on the checkpoints ruins it a bit... rest of the map simply superb.
Hello Ace, i am a Fan of your work sine repository, I´ve been downloading almost all "alphas" of Glacier. Before this B1, i found that Glacier was fun and had great gameplay... I just played the B1 and i must say, great work, congratulations. Pont C is perfect, just add some details on A and B.
Despite of being a first beta, the map its "ready", i think you can soon release a first RC, maybe after 2 or 3 beta versions.
Again, congratulations, i am admin at a custom server here in Brazil, UOL #09 Custom Maps (200.98.250.8:27018), I must say, it´s not an easy task, people dont want to download the maps. :(
Well, release a final pl_repository, hehe, and keep the good work.
PS: I just loved the ICE melting and the payload tracks down on C point, maybe you can pick some new ideas for another project, or even make some relations btw cp_glacier and pl_repository, just a litle part, maybe an extra track, unused, leading to some snow place... and a sign, Glacier ahead.
