The game has no plot for me to follow. No directions for me to obey or no tutorial on how to fight. Instead this game depends on you having known or played previous dark Souls games. So my problem I have with this game is the grind to be better or to beat bosses.
If you are okay with dying 47 times to get gud then this is for you. The rewards are almost always null after such fights as well which to me is a further blow. Instead you have to find enemies that drop gear and fight them time after time after time to get their full set. So you can stand a chance. MInd you, im talking solely on obatining gear for you to sustain damage or other bonuses.

Graphics are okay, not ground breaking or bad - just okay. Sound are okay as well. It gets very repetitive as well but lets face it, the developers wont care because YOU dont care. This review will get drowned on the over whelming positives that this game has going. I cannot understand the hype (which I suspect Twitch streamers have something to do) of this game.

To this day, this game could have been done better in my opinion. The COOP is half assed, the plot nowhere to be found and the rewards are a slap to the face. Never again will I buy this series again nor will I recommend it.

Let me start off by saying that the visuals are great. The sense of riding in a futuristic flying vehicle is convincing, however dont let graphics fool you here. The gameplay is bland and controls are awkward. I couldnt even quit. It starts you off with no guidance, no tutorial you just jettison out of a building. If you needed to adjust your chair and moved slightly out of position. You are SOL, there is no way to reset your in-game view to center yourself inside the aircraft. The controls are the most awkward I have ever experienced. right trigger accelerates, left trigger reverses. not pushing any inputs gets you to a neutral, unless your left hand is too far out or too far in. What? doesnt make sense right? I know.. it really doesn't. You also have the option to simulate grabbing the actual joysticks in game but you literally have to hold them by pressing a button down. If you let go, the controls reset.

Now I have to give it to the developers, there is an ambiance that hasnt been done before. Much like Aircar this title is very relaxing and you can pull off some neat stunts around the city. There isnt much interactions between you and anything else, unfortunately. You can find landing pads around to re-energize your aircraft. Im not entirely sure what it does but I believe it gives fuel.

There are no real graphical options, except for rain and traffic intensity. Beyond that you get nothing else in which case can make the break or make experience. Even on my 6900 xt, I struggled to get 72 fps. Yeah its true. the exit button doesnt work, you have to Alt+F4 out of this one.

Static, poorly optimized and most importantly, VERY boring.

The game follows in the footsteps of Squad (a far superior game) but falls very short. The selling point point is the tactical realism but in sandbox games like these, the fun largely depends on the people that you play with.
Because of the large scale of the maps and lack of map derivative with little to no guidance or tactical points many of them feel flat and boring. With the only varying is textures and scenery.

Whats worse are the absurd rules around servers, just find one that allows people to have fun - and not one that tries to make every moment be an exact duplicate of a real event. That takes away the fun, scripted movements and outcomes are not fun!

Optimization is really poor. I own a RX 6900 XT and there are no games that my card cant handle. COD:Warzone goes from 90-160 fps everything max except ray tracing.
Here I have to set things on medium to even run them at 70 fps. Not to mention it can drop to 45 fps.

WHat is wrong here!?

My suggestion, skip this or play on a free weekend. The fun is largely based on the historical backdrop and no so much on the gunplay or gameplay.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is out.

Go play that instead of this because this is bugged and half-assed.

Early Access Review
This review is based on the free weekend given on June 20-24.

Okay where to start..

Bugs.
This game is riddled with them, nearly every instance every moment you will run into an issue. Most of them related to movement. Almost as if your point of view wants to fly off your character because maybe the ping or lag prevents them from both being together.
I have played this game a total of 2 times. Each segment was abruptly ended by a freeze or a sudden shutdown. Its almost unplayable. If this game was according to some loyal players patched for the free weekend, I cannot possibly imagine how bad this game has been before.
Character movements is also very abrupt. In matches you can watch your teammates essentially teleport 1-2 feet as they move. This isnt lag.. this is worse. clearly a lack of smoothing.
This may be an issue but the frame rate is unstable as all the hell. Literally jumps from 70fps to low 40's. Notably during firefights. I mean, small scale fights. 1vs1 = 40 fps. No, I dont have a sh*t system. I have a beast!

Is the game fun?
Ugh, depends on how many bugs you run into. For the most part. NO. it can get a bit exciting when you are on a killing spree but generally its short lived. Maps are small (but well detailed) but feel flat. The game lacks that epic punch that BF4 offers. There are no destructible environments (though some items can be destroyed)

My final verdict.

Its bad. I mean being free or early access doesnt give it a right to be so unplayable, riddled with bugs or just downright broken. Go ahead, download and judge for yourself. Dont listen to the fanboys who paid the full 32.00$ for this, they are dillusional as they know they spent money on a hot pile of poo and want self gratification by expressing (falsely) how great the game is.

Let me start with with damaging this game currently;

Day 2 after launch...

- Cannot find servers (BUG) - and when you do join one, you get thrown into a completely different region ignoring your filters - according to devs there arent enough for everyone. - well, thanks alot chinese servers!
- XP/Gold bug - One of the most important aspects of the game besides the combat itself is the leveling up. This allows you to buy more equipment, As of now, its nearly absent. not because it wasnt part of the design.. oh its there.. BUT IT ISNT WORKING! this bug alone is nearly game breaking as it affect some players more than others and can mean the difference between winning or losing a match. Doesnt matter though.. you get no XP or Gold to begin with. Way to go devs!
Hit detection -Noone has touched on this yet and thats because of the other major bugs/glitches in the game, but There is some serious problem with hit detection. Now, I have to admit I have not tested this with every weapon and it appears that it only affects certain ones but really.. Devs check that sh*t!

Other aspects which are gameplay related such as switching to a weapon after having thrown a knife seem to be very difficult. You get locked into holding a throwing knife unable to switch for a period of time. The devs might have thought of this as balance except, it truly isnt balanced at all specially considering the short range of the knife and how you normally have to pull out your main immediately after in order to counter a charging enemy.
I only have 6 hours in and I have noticed small bits and issues regarding balancing. But its not that big of a deal as some weapons are CLEARLY better than others like in real life. I suppose that may bother some.
Graphically this game looks sharp. Everything is highly detailed if not a straight rip off chivalry. The two have alot in common visually speaking. And I dont mean the time setting...
Sound is very good as well, not much to elaborate everything is acceptable.

The game can be fun.. I know it.. but the devs NEED to fix the current issues right now. Failure to do so will not only deter current players but new ones alike.I wish the best for this game but right now.. dont get it. It will hurt your feelings.

This game is alot like Squad. In some ways better in some ways its not.

The amount of fun will depend on your squad not only because of the load-outs available which can shift in quantities depending on the amount of players, but because of the interactions. You can have good leaders, those who empathize with players and try to adjust to overcome obstacles. Then you got the dirtbags that should never lead in the first place, whom sole purpose is to insult players in their own squads and blame incompetencies on them rather than their own lack of leadership. Having that said, if you find yourself in a bad squad, leave it ASAP. Do not put up with a bunch of kids who want to feel in power for a games sake. Thats not how it should work and you have no reason to be disrespected.

Of course, not all interactions are bad. This game offers radious voice chat so anyone outside of your squad can listen to you within a certain distance. this allows for a great deal of tactical advatage and sometimes even confort. If you are stranded behind enemy lines and find one other person with you, both of you can communicate and find ways to back each other up in the field. Its small but events like these can have an impact on the gameplay and how much fun you can have.

Technically, this game is unforgiving. Most guns kill with a single shot, movement speed is slow can can become even slower if you find yourself walking through heavy brush or muddy waters. The amount of details that they have put into this game is refreshing when compared to other first person shooters (BF V *ahem*). Now some of these can hinder how much fun you could have but good planning will help avoid such circumstances. Additionally, most of the load outs are realistic to their real life counterpart so half the squad can potentially run around with K98's bolt action. Dont worry, they are generally a one shot kill, as they should be. The game also offers a nice variety of tanks, air support and artillery. They are all a welcome addition, but they dont make up the bulk of the game.

The sound design is great, in fact the best I have heard in a while. rifles are loud, aircrafts strafes are scary and tanks rumble the earth as it approaches near your location. You will be immersed. No question about it. But I have to admit that aside from all the gameplay features this game offer a large number of bugs, much liek Squad when in was in its infancy. None of them are game breaking but you will be annoyed at them at times.

Final Thoughts;

If you skipped everything I wrote then all you need to know that if you are looking for a more realistic WWII with no vageenes and all out unforgiving combat, look no further. This will satisfy your needs until the next great WWII game comes out. whenever that may be...

I played it for a total of 30 minutes.

In those 30 minutes I didnt have any fun whatsoever. I dont get why people are really liking this game so much but it needs more direction.

I wish I could get my money back but you dont have to invest in this gun mediocrity.

Technically the game is well made but there isnt any fun to be had, you spawn you pick a gun and you are done. shoot all you want, it doesnt matter because there is any real fun in it. Even if the devs went very far to make th guns as accurate as real life in the end it doesnt matter! I have more fun at the range than I do in this.
Do yourself a favor and buy Onward instead. Not only do you use guns, you use guns to shoot at other people.

So with VR comes the military shooters and boy this is something we have dreamed out. right?

No. This is not it.

With the over whelming amount of positive feedback this review unfortunately may be a needle in a hay stack. Unseen and uncared for. Let me tell you however, this game is pretty subpar, a technical mess.
First of all, Im a vet myself pulled light infantry 4 years ago and it was the best time of my life. the 24 mile of grueling shoot, move, communicate and extreme exercises were fun. I always have been a different breed of a person. I loved how they try to break you down and try to make the best stick out.
But this is a video game, so should be focused on being simply fun, not a simulation.
The biggest issue I have is the controls. They arent very good. it seems that the grab boxes work randomly and almost never work when you need something. Take for example this scenario. You LMG and you are prone. The 150 round drum runs out (give or take, game doesnt ever tell you how much ammo there is in a magazine) you quickly take your left hand and reach for your magazine pouches... you hit the grab and bring it up just to realize you have nothing in your hand. You try again, nothing. Then you try again and again. Then you start to think maybe its you. Alas its not you. You can never reload while prone. At least I have never been able to pull it out for your main rifle. For some reason it works okay when reloading your pistol. Oh what about standing? well, its easier but even then, half the time you can succesfully bring a magazine up and reload as intended. The game may provide a controller feedback when you successfully grab something but it is very faint and you may not even feel it when o the move.
Speaking of reloading that is something of its own as well. You may forgive the tracking sometimes. You may think a movement or a motion may escape the sensors and thats forgivable. But what about buttons? it seems in this case that they wont work as intended. I dont know why. but it seems to work randomly or a very fixed or consicse precision. I dont think its good. The controls are absolute mess. This is unacceptable for a game that requires precision and quick reation. This alone makes me want to refund.

Graphics:
Well its VR and these developers obviously are newbies so we can all forgive the terrible textures, awkward movements and how difficult it is to wim down the sight onto a 12x scope. You do get a nice video menu which lets you change the settings, they are minimal but if you want to play at 90 fps you may need to adjust it. (remove shadows etc)They get the job done but nothing special.

Gameplay:
Again this is a very generic shooter. If this came out on desktop pc as a shooter it would flop. There is absolutely nothing special about it, just the novelty of playing a "war" game in VR. You get a few modes, such as LInk where attackers need to enter a code next to a radar to .. send a message and win the game. Escort the VIP, which is exactly what it sounds and some other redundant game mode noone cares about. In all honestly most players focus on Killing the enemy and ignore th eobjective. That I can agree as theres where the fun exist. this is a 6vs6 game so if you are looking for epic fights, forget this one. When something better comes out you will forget about this game but for now this game is King. Sadly.

Other/misc:
Team killing in this game is a bit of a problem as there are no name indicators and you dont find out who kills you until after you die and are returned to the weapon select screem. Once you are there you literally have to turn 180 degrees to your killer. Then you have to determine whether or not he was on your team or not, which may mean that you have to look back and forth between the player list and the killer list. You can boot people out of a match but generally it fails and noone cares enough to do it, unless the Tker is on a slaughter spree.
Speaking of name indicators. There is absolutely no way to know anyone's name in game. I understand that they are pushing some realism but when you cant even call a buddy by his name or able to identify people RIGHT NEXT TO YOU i feel its a problem. perhaps if the devs implement a proximity name tag for positive ID of your team mate (ex. within 1 meter name appears).

This game may leave you frustrated or it may excite you at first. (give it some time the novelty will wear off) If you are starving for a half decent experience give this game a try also wait for when its on sale. a 24$ price tag isnt worth it at all. I think personally that it should be free for the amount of bugs and problems that are so abundant in this game.

I rate this game a 6 out 10.
It tries to get your money with the buzzword "tactical shooter" but really its just a generic shooter with a military style to it.
