They really did it! I was so sceptical until the end, fearing they'd ruin another great name of the past (namely, making a game that's great on consoles but at most only mediocre on PC), but Square Enix outdid themself on Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
There are a few downsides to this game: You can unlock almost all augmentations in one playthrough, which I didn't like. Also, instead of having multi-tools and lockpicks in addition to hacking, there's only hacking here, which gets a little repetetive later on. This also leads to being able to use every possible way in a single playthrough, lowering the replay value a bit in my opinion.
But this is basically critique on a somewhat high level. This game has an amazing atmosphere, lots of hidden details, is not too easy as most games nowadays and is truly deserving of the title "Deus Ex".
First off: I don't like plattformers… at all. I bought a good number of them, almost never finished one.
After entering the world of LIMBO though, I could hardly stop playing. This game is all about atmosphere - which is delivered right at the beginning.
The whole game has a very eerie feeling to it, mostly due to the lack of music and the fact that almost the whole story is shaped by your own imagination.
The gameplay is very solid (personally, I suck in most plattformers and ragequit sooner or later ^_^) and there are no frustrating encouters, though I got stuck for a minute or two at some puzzles which had me thinking hard about how to solve them.
To sum it up: LIMBO is the first game in this genre, which really captivated me since "Another World" back on the Amiga (http://www.anotherworld.fr/anotherworld_uk/index.htm) and this is probably also the only plattformer for a good while, which I can recommend. The only downside IMHO is the really short playtime (~3-4 hours).
Cthulhu says: Buy this!
The humor in this game alone is worth the 2 Bucks.
