One day I will use my earnings from my career to help all video game enthusiasts. I am saddened that I had to quit as the golden age of video games is rapidly approaching, but I will not be a part of it. Occasionally, I will log back into Steam to check on friends, but as an addict, you must repel your urge to reinstall the game and relapse.
By far, one of the best games I have ever played was the original Call of Duty. When I first bought the game the first day it came out, I thought the graphics and gameplay would never be matched. It is amazing how far we have come in video games. Who would have thought that the game I played every single day for a year would turn into one of the best-selling franchises of all time? I remember playing in the first ever CoD tournament, and it was a FFA tournament that featured many names that would eventually become professionals. Being discouraged after being eliminated in the final round caused me become even more competitive. I remember the first ever SOTF tournament as well, as if it was yesterday. So many memories...
The things I remember the most include: late night ventrilo hangouts, pranks through ventrilo, irc, watching shoutcasts, following tournaments, the infamous CPL, all of the leagues - CAL, OGL, TWL, GGL, etc. , teamspeak, GotFrag?, there is a ton of stuff I am forgetting, but the communities I was a part of gave me a sense of identity during some of the most troubled times in my life, and for that, I will never forget you guys..
I have no regrets for all the hours spent playing because I learned a lot of things that have helped me in real life. The only thing I regret is not playing CS 1.6 during the peak years, due to my indulgence in other games at the time. For the most part, I think I did fairly well considering I entered CS in late 2004. Multiple unsubstantiated bans, disbanded teams, and discouraged periods help fueled my progress. My desire to be the best at every game will be transferred to my desire to make a positive impact on the world. As I always used to say "GOML, kthx bye."
