TLDR;
An extremely good simulator that focuses on high details to real components, real builds and real problems. It does sadly lack some few but important realism-parts described below. Unfamiliar with PC building but you want to learn? You sure can here. Certainly grab it when it's on sale.

Long review with too many words. At least it's clean and tidy. I think.

I've had this kind of career in real life, but with more business-related computers from HP, Lenovo and Dell.
The tasks are pretty much the same though, and I found this game really cool because of my love for computers and the possibility to finally work with gaming rigs. I LOVE how so many real components there are.
I used PC Building Simulator to build my (real) current machine. Even the ingame benchmark is a REAL benchmark. It's just fantastic.

The Good
  • Real components
  • Real problems
  • It teaches you real compatibility
  • Career mode is easy to follow
  • The games tutorial is good
  • As you progress in career, more components unlock.
  • I can play my own music or listen to (almost) any crappy radio I want
  • Easy to build PC's. Build anything you want in the sandbox. Career is really neat if you want a challenge. Hard mode unlocks after lvl 10
  • You are not very stressed to complete jobs, and have almost all the time in the world.
  • Compatible builds still might not work. You need to stress-test big builds to be certain. It might overheat because of too bad CPU cooler, lack of Thermal Paste (you'll learn to remember that one) or maybe even case fans are absent. These things are thrilling and real.

The Not-That-Good
  • I can't place or relocating things like keyboards, mouse, screens and computers anywhere I want. Peripherals as the only option to personalize is not good enough. I mean- I have a big desk, but I can't place 2 computers on it? I wanna customize my workspace with the same possibilities I have in Cooking Simulator.
  • There's no ingame notepad. When managing big/multiple tasks, this is a must. Even a freggin post-it note would help. If I have alot of components, I might begin to forget what computer was supposed to have what.
  • System specs from customers change if I change anything in the build. Why the f*** does that happen? I need the original specs written down, and with notepads and post-it notes lacking, this is a unnecessary 'trifle'.
  • Cable management is boring and does barely teach me anything. Everything is highlighted. Where is the room for errors? And in the matter of learning- why does that cable have to plug 'there' and not 'there'? I would really like to have the cables placed somewhere spesific, but I can't and I hate that.
  • All computer-builds make the same noise, at same desibel level. Why can't I have someone request a PC that make less noise than the previous one? The noise from 'my own' PC is making is making me crazy, and I can't do sh*t about it.
  • I wish the peripheral headphones were useable, like it was a choise to have music in surround-sound or the music source from the main computers screen.
  • There is no screwdrivers in the game. Even if I understand why, I think it ruins possibilities of realism-factors. Some PC-cases, GPU's, Motherboards etc require different screws and screwdrivers.
  • Real PC's have failure beep-codes in the booting process that are absent in this game. When say- RAM fails or the motherboard fails, it tend to signal you in more than the visual way. This would both help in realism and the possibilities of multitasking in PC Building Simulator.

Some of my issues with this game might get sorted out by the devs eventually, but really bugs me now and because of it, I can't maintain interest after 10+ hours. It's my bullet-listed issues that makes me unable to recommend the game. I still want to because it's such a good learning tool.
