wasteFactor's History
I've gone and cleaned up some things in the group profile and such. Updated the description too.

Here is as good a place as any to say this; I think we can all agree wasteFactor is about as dead as it's going to get. Obviously nobody has to wear the tags anymore unless they want to.

For the curious, here is a little history about wasteFactor...

wasteFactor started out a long time ago, made up sort of on the spot if I recall between Owen and myself. It began to form into a small, casual gaming clan between fellow friends through middle and high school. Our numbers never climbed very high initially; just local buddies and such.

I came to meet TeRmInAtEr2 at some point, when we were looking to expand ourselves beyond the five or so of us we had grouped together under the wasteFactor name. With T2 came many others, and overall grand times were had by most of us. We started running a couple servers, HL mods mostly and a teamspeak server. Things were looking alright.

Unfortunately, young and silly as we were, some of us got to bickering and eventually it got to the point I felt I should pull the plug. I intentionally killed wasteFactor, pronouncing it a dead clan and cutting all members except the original five. I had become pretty good friends with T2 by now and apologized for having to do this as it was clear that wF meant a lot to him.

So we went our separate ways. I more or less decided I was done with clans, and most of the five remaining members wore the dead clan's tag out of habit, noting briefly the story when inquired about our affiliation. T2 went on to create many new communities with those he knew personally from wasteFactor, and if I'm not mistaken he's still on that path. Most of us original five, being the "elders" in the group by a year or few, are now in college. We're moving on with our lives, though we remember the great times we had together as the wasteFactor clan.

When we first started expanding, Owen and I - being cofounders - got the idea to create a gaming and modding community out of wasteFactor. That idea never really pulled through, but I don't think I can honestly rule it out of happening someday. I'm happy to know that if and when that does happen, we'll all be a lot more mature and have a greater understanding about just what we're doing. I think that was a major part of what led to the eventual failure of wasteFactor as a stable community - we were all in our mid-teens. At that age you're still in high school, and you don't know what you're doing, really. Regardless, I don't get the impression that we're ready to dive into something like that as a whole, so I don't really expect anything like this to come to fruition. It's just a possibility.

Anyway, this is just my way of wrapping up. I'm sure this all sounds rather fluffed up and over-drama'd, and it probably is a bit. But I wanted to put down at least some sort of context for why this steam group exists in the first place.

And please note that this is all written from what I can remember myself.
