SteamOS 01/13/2014 alchemist_beta update
  • Fixed github issue 16 - Leftover "7" in PRETTY_NAME in /etc/os-release
  • Fixed github issue 34 - Not critical warning message: No such key `ubuntu-lock-on-suspend'
  • Fixed github issue 64 - Workaround for Debian bug #601670
  • Merged in Debian Wheezy bugfixes for apt, expat, gnome-settings-daemon, gnupg, gtk+3.0, nspr, pixman, tzdata, curl, libxfont, openssl
  • Made uinput a kernel builtin rather than a module and added a udev rule to allow for the steam user to access it
  • Reduced CPU and GPU usage while games are running by interrupting Big Picture and overlay rendering
  • Fixed an issue where two cursors would appear on screen when a game was starting of exiting
  • Fixed tearing issues on AMD platforms by having the SteamOS compositor now specifically requests vertical retrace synchronization rather than relying on the implementation's default
  • Improved compatibility with the Debian wheezy repositories by widening the scope of the SteamOS binary package repository

I updated my system and now there's a loop of the verifying installation screen. How do i fix this?

any chance of a newer PulseAudio?
Pierre-Loup Jan 13, 2014 @ 4:35pm
DiegoPeter; are you still running into this? A Steam client hotfix was pushed out to address the repeated crash on startup.

Upgrading Pulse isn't something we were considering; what specifically were you looking at in newer versions? If there are specific, critical features or bug fixes that would justify it it would be good data for us to know about.

most of it is bug fixes, but the better bluetooth support, and, performance improvements. are nice too.

Just noticed another update of about 40 MB. What changes does this contain?

The OS is getting a lot smoother already, even on AMD :)

good job!

while in game performance has increased it is still not has good has in desktop mode.
in desktop i can play portal maxed out with 8x aa and v-sync on with a hd7770
in steamos it stutters (a lot less than it did originally but still not the same)

but hey you guys are doing a great job, in a short time the performance really improved a lot.
