Wait you're mikeyd? I always see you on github. Guess who this is ;)
The easiest way to do this, I'm not even kidding, is probably like this:
Downloading mods can be done with the browser.
If you want to be able to extract zip/rar/7z files or open text files, you'll need to perform another set of steps, though:
- Press Ctrl+Alt+F5 on the keyboard, which will give you another login prompt.
- Log in as the user "desktop"
- Run this command to install the archive manager and a text editor:
sudo apt-get install gedit file-roller -y - Wait for it to finish, then switch back to the desktop with Ctrl+Alt+F8 or Ctrl+Alt+F9, can be either one, or switch back to Steam with Ctrl+Alt+F7.
It is a somewhat of an annoyance that the user for the regular Linux desktop which you can launch from Steam can't do much with the files of the user which runs Steam. This is what makes quite a bit harder to do.
