Smashball Isn't Dead Just Yet
WARNING: Long post, scroll to bottom for TL;DR
Hey guys, I wanted to post an announcement here about the state of the game. I want to say first and foremost that I am not affiliated with the great group of guys that made this game. The only reason I can post here is because they graciously gave me admin powers in this group about a year ago when there was a resurgence in the community.
Anyways, on to the main point. Smashball has never really had a large community. Usually, it's just been a small but close group of players that have had a similar interest in smashball and keeping it alive. In my 5+ years of playing Smashball, it was at it's strongest just a year ago, when myself and a few other players organized a 4v4 league, which had 4 teams and went as far as having a regular season, playoffs, and a championship (which was never played). We discovered old maps that were rather good and some ambitious players even made their own new maps which were awesome despite having some flaws. Hell, I made my own contributions by making several server side changes to rebalance the game after that disaster of a patch back in 2010 (it practically killed the game), which was also the last official patch.
So what does all of that mean if it was a year ago? Well, I've been trying to revive the community off and on for years. I still see people interested in bringing back smashball. I still have players come to me asking for a server and we play a match. The last week there's been yet another resurgence of the community. Albeit a small one, we've had games almost every night for the past week - something that hasn't happened in several months. I want this community resurgence to last, and I want to see the game grow to have a small but dedicated playerbase once again. But most of all I want those people who have never been able to play a match but have expressed interest in this group, on the game's store page, and in the community hub to see this game revived.
I might seem somewhat obsessed with this game, but that's because I'm passionate about it. I want people to play it and I want new people to find a fun and awesome community like I did when I first started playing way back in 2009. I met awesome people that I still talk to and play with to this day. Smashball is an amazing game that I believe, despite having flaws, can have a decent playerbase.
So if you guys EVER want a game or a server or want to host servers, etc. Talk to me. I want this game to come back as much as I know some of you out there want it to come back too. I will always be passionate about this game and about reviving this game. If you ever want to host your own server talk to me as well, I'll hook you up with info about how to host one, with all the extra maps and server side changes that have breathed so much new life into the game this past year.
Anyways, sorry for the long ass post, but I wanted people to know that I care about this game, and that others care about it too.
I'M NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE DEV TEAM BUT: Smashball isn't completely dead. There are players who still play and want the playerbase to grow. Add me and talk to me about games and servers and maps whenever you want. I love this game and always will.
