The Sith are all about POWER. The Master has the ultimate power and his apprentice is always trying to obtain that power. It's the rule of 2...a master and an apprentice...no more no less. The master always knows that the time will come when the apprentice will challlenge him to become the Master. The more powerful Sith will prevail and take on a new apprentice. Then the cycle repeats but in the end...all about POWER
