Guest Review by Nebel - Altitude
Intro
Altitude is an Indie game by Nimbly Games that is worth EVERY SINGLE FUCKING CENT. Altitude is a 2D shooter with some very fast paced gameplay. There are 5 planes that you can choose from, but you have to unlock each of them by leveling up by playing either the training or online games. This is extremely helpful for those just picking up the game as the community is very competitive and will stop at nothing to shoot your plane down.
Perks
There are also perks you can equip for your plane. Each having 3 slots to choose whichever you want, much like Modern Warfa-..wait, people still care about that game? Oh, anywho, the first perk slot is plane-specific. For instance, the planes that have explosive have explosive boosting perks, while the plane that has missiles (Loopy) has a perk that allows them to lock on to the target you’re aiming at, etc etc. The second slot has to do with the planes’ armor, such as taking less damage from crashing, and taking less damage from weapons. The downside is, however, that if you don’t have one perk, the one you changed is significantly increased. Hot DAMN that was poorly explained. In an easier explanation, if you don’t have the perk that decreases crashing damage, you will pretty much die just from crashing into a wall. The third perk slot has to do with energy, which powers basically everything in your plane from weapons, to the afterburner, which is a boost type mechanism. The more energy you have, the more effective whatever you’re doing will be. For instance, if you have a lot of energy, your weapons will fire faster and become more powerful. When you run out of energy, the weapons will significantly drop both in speed and power. This gets EXTREMELY annoying during dogfights.
Flight mechanics
The flying in Altitude is very simple and easy to pick up. The left arrow makes the plane go down, while the right arrow goes up. The up and down arrows adjust the speed. There is also a very frustrating thing called Stalling. When either your plane gets hit or you crash into something or you speed down all the way, your plane will stall. Basically, your plane goes into a great fucking spasm and you can’t move or do shit, and you’re very vulnerable. From what I know, you can only get out of Stall by either spamming the left and right arrow keys or boosting out of it. Other than that, flying is very smooth.
Game Types
There are very game types in Altitude. There’s a kind of ball game where the objective is to simply get the ball, which is neutral in the first round and goes to the team who got scored on the round before. There is also a Bomb the Base game type in which each team has their own bomb and the objective is to destroy the other teams’ base. Off topic, but, ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US. Then there’s your standard Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, and 1-Life Team Deathmatch, in which the objective is to rack up more kills than the other team.
Maps
(there won’t be much to talk about because I mean, come on, how much can you really talk about maps?)
There are a few stock maps for each game type, and then there are like, 14 bajillion custom maps. This is because the game is very community friendly, it even has its own map editor, which is very easy to use. There is even a football field for the ball game type.
Ending
Well, thank you for reading my review, I hope you enjoyed it. The game Altitude will be for 5 dollars, or about 3 pounds, until the end of today. Then it will go back to its original price of 10 dollars. HURRY YOUR ASS UP AND GET IT.
