We all know that a lot of people are calling out Valve for "false promises" and a "lack of faith" in Left 4 Dead. These people are against Left 4 Dead 2, and want Valve to release it as a patch for L4D, some for free!
Valve is a company, and like all companies, they make money. To make money, they release new products to attract more customers.
Left 4 Dead 2 is just another product, which they will update and support just like all of their other games.
Here, we support Left 4 Dead 2 and await it's release, so we can enjoy it. And that's what games are about. Having fun.

That sounds like and interesting idea. Smashing a zombies head in with a crowbar would be fun.
A good thing for L4D2 would be to incorporate the weapons from either HL2 or CS. I mean ALL the weapons from all the different countries military powers (CS). + the Gravity Gun and Crowbar.
It's not even like they won't keep updating l4d1. People say they won't have a reason to update it, but people will still be playing the first. It's not like l4d2 will make l4d1 obsolete.
For every copy they don't buy, I'll buy two.
