ok, you should be able to get at least 3.4GHz easily. try running your CPU at max load (100%) some benchmarking softwares will help you out with that. you don't really want your cpu to get to 60 degrees and 50 is a safer limit. also: make sure you have an aftermarket fan installed on your cpu, it could take as much as 10 degrees off. make sure you know how to install the heatsink first tho!

mine is 3.0 Ghz,and it runs at 33-35 degrees celcius.

anyone else beat the L4D2 demo on expert yet?

erm, not really. your best bet is to ask that question on a technology forum. one thing you will need however, is a way of measuring your component heat. for example my proccessor is running at 1% load, is clocked at 3.6GHz (3.2 native) and is at 36 degrees celcius right now. hit me up for a convo and we'll try to find one.

tempest, could you suggest a good guide for overclocking ?

I'm happy that as a Computing science student at my university, I get a free license for XP, Vista and Windows 7 ;)

yes indeed it is. don't forget to overclock your components if you have the heatsinks!

Even if they are very expensive, its still a good tip.

rofl vinsanity, SSDs are waaaaaaaaaay too expensive for the average gamer. I will however note that they ARE the future for storage devices because of the fact that we begining to be limited by the laws of physics on our HDDs. we are also begining to get proccessors so small that we are aproaching our limit too (physics again.) and for those that are unfamilliar with what a SSD is, it is a Solid State Drive, instead of operating with a rotating disk as HDDs do, it is pretty much a huge chunk of RAM (not really.) SSDs operate far better than HDDs.

tip of the minute: If you have an SSD, don't defragment it, as it leads to decreased performance, and you will be using up its limited read/write cycles and it will not improve performnace either, in fact, it has been found to decrease peformance.

good tip, also "are you an admin? no? then should i care? no." -> so true

next tip: if you have 2 hard drives (or partitions) you can easily backup all of your stuff! I would recomend a good 100-200 GB hard drive with fast load times and a 1 TB hard drive to carry all the junk in your trunk.

tip of the day. restart your computer after long periods of time to empty your ram cache. yawn.
