The H.P. Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association has decided to boycott the meeting called by the Horticulture Minister in protest against the decision of the government not to increase the support price for mango and apple!
Mr Lekh Raj, president of the association, said here today that the prices of cartons and fertilisers had been increased by the government on the plea that the prices of inputs had increased but the same argument had been rejected in case of support prices for mango and apple.
He said as farmers had not been provided with relief and no authentic report by the department concerned had been published for assessing the losses, the growers had been left disappointed.
He alleged that such meetings by ministers were being organised to "mislead" the farmers. Therefore, an appeal had been issued to all farmers and their organisations not to attend these meetings.
He said a meeting of the executive of the association would be held at Kulu on July 11 to sort out the problems of growers.
