Post Suggestions Here
Hi there, I love your website, and this is one of the greatest ideas ever!

I have some improvement suggestions:

- Add the ability to not show a user as a possible match
- Better integration with the steam library (some games are on the store but no on the site)
- Option to select Desura/Origin/Gog games (nice to have)
- Wishlist syncing must be improved.

Keep up the good work, and thanks a lot for barter.vg :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope others will have additional suggestions, so I'm going to pin this thread.

- Add the ability to not show a user as a possible match.
-- "Ignore" feature. I hadn't thought of this feature since there weren't many users (138 to date), but as more people sign up, this will become more important.

- Better integration with the steam library (some games are on the store but no on the site)
-- Games are added as they appear in users' libraries and wishlists. This misses many games and almost all DLC. I've been manually adding games when they appear in new bundles, but at least for the foreseeable future, there will be many missing games.

- Option to select Desura/Origin/Gog games (nice to have)
-- I want this also and there's currently limited support for Desura, Origin, GOG, Uplay. However, Steam has been much easier to support (I have only seen an API for Steam). There are only 80 non-Steam games in the barter.vg database. To add any of them, you would have to search the title and then click Add to Tradeable or Wishlist.

- Wishlist syncing must be improved.
-- The current setting is that everyone's wishlist syncs around once a week with the option to manually sync. What in particular would you like to see improved?

The ability to ignore people is important because there are people who are bad traders or too annoying to trade with, even in a small community. Thanks for considering it an option.

About the integration, here is an example: I tried adding a game and it was not recognized, even though it was from a bundle and it is on the steam store (the ingenious machine). Is there any way to make automatic, not manual?

About Desura, I tried adding the Desura version of Soul Gambler in the past, but only one entry for the game appeared. I saw it in someone else's account, though.

About syncing, I mean that, even when I manually sync, not all games are listed (lower number than the real list). But know that I think of it, it must be related to the fact not all Steam games are listed.

Thanks for replying, keep up the good job!

In theory, there is an automatic method, but it isn't user-friendly. You could add the missing games to your Steam wishlist, sync your Barter wishlist, then the games would appear on the pulldown. However, I just attempted to do so with "WolfWars" and it didn't show up. Therefore, there's likely a bug there. Manually added Ingenious Machines https://barter.vg/i/4845/

The individual game pages and search got minor updates a few weeks ago. If the Desura page exists, it will show up on in search. In addition, Soul Gambler has related links https://barter.vg/i/1647/ If you see the game listed and linked on someone else's page, you should be able to add it by clicking the link, then clicking on of the + Add buttons.

I see that you have 171 games on your wishlist and only 149 show up on Barter. I believe this is related to the same bug mentioned earlier.

Thanks for pointing out those problems. That's an annoying bug that I hadn't noticed.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll always try to provide feedback when I see something is wrong or could be improved, as barter has been very helpful to me. Here is another apparent bug. There are two pages that seem to point to the same user:

https://barter.vg/u/d7/
https://barter.vg/u/107/

I saw that while using the match feature. There are differences (wishlist is a bit different in size and there are no tradeables in one of the profiles), but they point to the same steam profile.

There was a bug that prevented the addition of new games (related to the database). I synced several lists and they appeared to update correctly now.

There are 2 users with duplicate profiles. To prevent this, there's a check to ensure that the steam id (e.g. 76561198164997231) is unique, but if someone starts their profile with http://steamcommunity.com/profile/76561198164997231 and then enters http://steamcommunity.com/id/bartervg there will be two users pointing to the same Steam profile. Will need to improve the duplicate check.

Hi traders, *,

first things first. Thank you for Barter, it keeps saving time everyday for me. Brilliant idea, congratulations.

Said that, my two cents about improvements and feature requests.

1) It would be nice to have the possibility to export your own trade list as text, to use it in other places, but having to mantain the list only in barter after each trade. This will definitevely help make barter the primary storage for many people lists. Also it would be nice to be able to export the list with some optional (thru checkboxes) information like [tier][positive %][steam_url][metacritic][tags] etc.

2) Sometimes i feel like having too much codes in my trade list due to the big offer of bundles. I think that these games would be better in someone's inventory, so usually i'm up to change these games for any game i don't have. This fact lead to a situation where i sistematically add the games from bundles that i don't buy to my whish list, then the whish list loose some of the real functionality. I propose an additional "match" that instead of matching "games in my whishlist" against "my games to trade", will match "games i don't have" against "my games to trade". This way a lot more opportunities to trade will appear. Games in both sides could be checked (one to one, many to one) to generate an offer thru a button. From my pov tier should appear side by side in the list of games. Lastly, but not least, it will be super nice to be able to filter the games you are seeking from people by tag, i.e. match my trade list against any RTS game i don't have.

3) I think it will be usefull to add some other information per game view, like tags present in Steam, to avoid going always to steam. Sometimes you are not interested at all in a genre, but if you don't know the game you go to Steam to check. Also i think that barter should provide a list of tiers when the game appeared in a bundle, and that this tier should not be configurable by the end user, because it's an objective information, not subjective. If a game appeared as tier 1 in a bundle and in tier 2 in another, it should be considered tier 1, as you can most probably trade with someone at tier 1. Games from bundles like bundlestars should fall in another scale (not tier1 btw). Just my pov.

4) Improvements in the offer subsystem, like delete the game from your list after you mark the trade as succesfully done. Maybe keep a REP system. Maybe keep track of trades, maybe trade from external users thru their steam profile as a reference. I know developer is working in some of these features so i wont extend.

5) Would not be great to be able to trade also cards and keys ? i know that excellent sites for trading cards with bots exists, but sometimes the bot don't have a card you need and is doing nothing in someone else inventory. I'm afraid i don't even imagine how can it work.

Thanks again, i whish my best !!!

Thanks for the detailed suggestions.

1) I plan to add an export feature, but not sure on the level of customization and extras

2) This is an advanced version of the current filter and match features. I hope to include some of it into the offers section.

3) There is a tag system in barter now, but it is focused on describing the trade aspects, such as "2-pack" or "region locked." I would like to expand it to include information about the actual games, such as genre. That could make filtering much more useful.

4) Part of this is up on the site now, but still testing it for major bugs. Upon accepting an offer, a "Complete" button appears. There is an additional checkbox option to update lists. Checking this and then clicking complete will move the tradeables that were traded and any custom wishlist games that were fulfilled, and then sync wishlist and library with Steam.

5) I think the first step would be the addition of a few of the most common Steam items used in trading: refined metal, Tour of Duty tickets and TF2 Keys.

This would be a great addition. I for one, fund a large amount of my game trading through TF2 trading and would welcome the option of making refined/keys etc.. appear as a tradeable commodity on the site. I have traded many games for "pure" and to be able to display this would work really well.

Congrats on the site btw - works a hell of a lot better than galagiveaways and suchlike ever did. Invites scammers unfortunately, so let me just say that if anyone offers DEADPOOL or ARMA III, they may well be a scammer (Arma III guy scammed at least 1 person) - just going from previous expreiences.
edit: reason i haven't linked to steam profiles is that steam doesn't seem to like naming and shaming.

I've added some Steam items to allow testing. They're linked in the Updates thread or you can find them by searching for "refined metal" or "mann co. supply crate key". There should then be add to tradeable or wishlist buttons.

Really disappointed about the scamming. I manually disabled sending or receiving offers for that user, but I don't expect to be able to police offers indefinitely.

I wish the Filter option after clicking on match from someone else's tradelist would allow me to only show games on my wishlist, instead of just hiding owned games.

Hiding owned games is a good feature, and I like being able to see if there is something in a user's list I might want. Right now you can see if the person owns games from your wishlist by going to the wishlist page on barter.vg and clicking on Match. I agree, though, that it would be good to be able to have barter.vg highlight games that are in our wishlist using the filter option.

The filter option should mark wishlist matches. It does so with the ★ icon. Perhaps that is not noticeable enough. I'll add a yellow highlight.

I hadn't noticed it! But it be great if only those would show in the list, so I can easily copy-paste to elsewhere (like after contacting someone and showing them the list of all games they have I'm interested in)
ellipsism 11. feb. 2015 kl. 9.06
That will likely be an export option. It doesn't work that way yet, but you can test it by clicking the [] button at the bottom right of a tradeable or wishlist.
MakoSipper 11. feb. 2015 kl. 9.10
For now, the export list works really well if you use it on compare2steam.com
