To fix:
0. Open Windows Explorer
1. Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNT\condition zero
2. Double click steam_appid.txt
3. Change the 10 to 80
^^ Reference:

4. Save and quit steam_appid.txt
5. Right click on steam_appid.txt and then click Properties.
6. Tick "Read-only"
7. Tick "Hidden"
8. Click OK.
9. Copy steam_appid.txt from:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNT\condition zero
to the following directories pressing Yes to overwrite if you are prompted to do so:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNT\condition zero\cstrike
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNT\condition zero\czero
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNT\condition zero\czero_unknown
10. Close Windows Explorer
11. Launch CS: CZ
I did this and Nurse TEN said that I was in Condition Zero.
As for the freezing when exiting I've only had this occur to me once when playing CS:CZ and I've been playing it a fair bit recently.
As for Valve out to destroy goldsrc games, many people suspect that(me too) and it utterly sucks :-( I can no longer run The Ship from a dedicated linux server, I suspect that the cause is the appid thing. There was no good reason to change the goldsrc appids.
I'd like to know what is causing the "_unknown" directories to be created. I've seen them for the other goldsrc games as well, and its only recently too.
I've got a report that TFC no longer runs on Windows 7 while CS does.
