WHAT WILL U PLAY?

The Wii U is a video game console from Nintendo and the successor to the Wii. The system was unveiled during Nintendo's press conference at E3 2011, was released on November 18, 2012 in North America, and is scheduled for release on November 30, 2012 in Europe and Australia, and December 8, 2012 in Japan. It is the first entry in the eighth generation of video game home consoles.
The Wii U is the first Nintendo console to support high-definition graphics, capable of producing video output up to 1080p, and has 2gb of memory with half dedicated to the console's operating system. The console was released in two versions: a "Basic" white-colored version with 8gb of internal Flash storage; and a "Deluxe" black-colored version with 32gb of Flash storage, which includes stand and docks. An HDMI cable is included with both versions. The Wii U's primary controller is the Wii U GamePad, which features a built-in touchscreen. The touchscreen is used to supplement the main gameplay shown on the television or, with supported games, can allow the player to continue playing games by displaying the main gameplay even when the television is off. In addition to the Wii U GamePad, a more traditional controller, called the Wii U Pro Controller, may be used.
The system is backward compatible with Wii, and Wii U games may support compatibility with Wii peripherals, such as the Wii Remote Plus and the Nunchuk. While it is not backward compatible with Nintendo GameCube discs or peripherals, GameCube titles will become available for purchase and download from Nintendo's Virtual Console service.

New features, changes to existing stuff, and details on GAMES!!!

Skyrim possibly coming to Wii U

Bethesda's Pete Hines told our friends at the Official Nintendo Magazine UK, "It's definitely a possibility for the future," when asked about Skyrim on the powerful Wii U.

"We'll look at any platform that will support that games we're trying to make, but that's the key thing - the console has to support the game as it is designed."

Hines goes on to explain that development costs are a factor for moving a game to another platform.

"The more changes we have to make to a game the less and less palatable it becomes because making a game is an enormous process. Just doing 360, PS3 and PC - I don't think people understand the amount of work that goes into that. All of the localisation you have to do... all of the testing you have to do... on every platform in every language... It's a pretty huge undertaking.

"So you aren't just supporting the Wii U; You're supporting it in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish," he added, again reassuring ONM that "it's definitely a possibility."

This mirrors statements from Hines earlier this year when he said the new platforms (Wii U and PS Vita) will get Bethesda's support if they are 'a good fit' for its games. "If they are a good fit for the kind of games we are making then absolutely, we would look to put [Bethesda's games] out for those," he said.
