Evaluation Result: Incredible Servers and an extremely large array of regulars.
Server IPs: 74.55.237.132:27015 Stock Maps, 72.233.5.210 24/7 Dustbowl, 72.232.0.149:27015 Goldrush/Dustbowl, 74.55.237.135:27015 2Fort/Dustbowl/Badlands, 72.233.30.4:27015 Stock Maps#2, 74.55.237.131:27015 24/7 Goldrush, 72.232.2.22:27015 24/7 2Fort
I have seen a few communities with more money than sense. Typical large communities buy a couple server boxes and toss up a bunch of servers that nobody uses and realize a few months later that empty servers are expensive and they disappear. Lotus clan appears to be doing it right.
Not only is there an array of TF2 servers, but they are ALL crazy popular. In fact most are ranked within the tope 95% for popularity throughout the world. They also have a DOD Source server that is ranked #1 in the world per game tracker.
If you can actually find an opening on one of their servers, you will find the action starting from log in. The players appear to be friendly although when the matches are either tight or one sided, people can get nasty with people venting on how nobody else has any skills but them. Also there are times when players feel the need to play music over their voice chat and there is no way to get them to stop until the lower life form finally stops broadcasting.
The servers don't ever really have an admin that can remove undesireable people. So when the servers need skill balancing or a problem child removed, you either just move to another server or try to get a vote to pass.
There are server sponsorship packages that can be located on their website at www.LotusClan.com . You can get powers on any one server for $5/month or on all servers for $10/month. The powers only include reserved slot, change teams, and start a vote. So you can see that admins hands are really tied when problems occur.
The website forums looks seldon used except for maybe getting a question answered. Although Manta (they guy behind all the hard work) is usually around most of the day to answer any questions that you encounter.
I firmly believe that this is the best community servers that I have seen so far. And although I have listed negative aspects, I would not feel I have done anyone justice without finding some negatives. The thing that I fear with a community this size is the ability to keep everything paid for by donators especially when the next great game comes out. Hopefully Lotus will keep doing what they are doing for many years.
