Orangebox games changes coming

Valve is updating the content delivery system for its Orangebox games (Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike:Source, Day of Defeat:Source, HL2:Deathmatch). They are testing it out on the Beta first and will be doint TF2 last but are still estimating to be done in 4 weeks or so.

The servers will be updated a couple days before the clients and there should be plenty of warning when it is coming. The server update is going to take quite a while since it will be a full reload of the game. The client update is only going to be a small download but could still take a long time since they will be running a conversion tool to turn all the GCFs into VPKs.

The update may break custom HUDs so be on the lookout for an update from your HUD maker.

I guess I have to address this again since it's becoming an issue with the newer regulars. It used to be that once it was 4 v 4 it was game on time. Now it's slipped to 5 v5. That's fine but when it's 5 v 5, it is game on time. I'm tired of all the TDM and other crap going on while people are trying to have a real game. That doesn't mean you have to be SRS BSNS the whole time. What it does mean is you need to be a credit to your team the whole time.

Okay I give up. It will happen when it happens. Probably while I'm out of town again, but hopefully not. I'm hoping for tomorrow.

Server took around 10-20 minutes to install for me, not sure if it was the Internet connection I had. Or Valve really took a big step into the "GOTTAGOFAST" revolution.

Server should be updating around 2 PM Pacific 5 PM Eastern. Not sure how long the update will take.

I created a TF2 server with this, and IMO it's really more simple than HLDSUpdateTool. But I guess it's up to you guys.
